Sideload Updates
- If you are in the OS and have adb shell access. Use the command
adb reboot bootloader
(If you don't have adb shell access, turn the headset off, hold volume down and power) - One you are in the bootloader, put your headset on and select the option that says
sideload update - Once you are in sideload mode, run this command
adb sideload name.zip(name.zip being the name of your downloaded OTA zip) (You can get updates from a site. You can ask for that link in FreeXR)
If you're headset is on v60 or below (Or Open Box), you need to follow a few steps. \
- If your headset is below v60 (Quest 2), please unlock the bootloader before proceeding. https://quest1-unlock.skystate.ch
- There is a certain path you need to take to safely update your headset. If you are below v60, start by sideloading v60
- Then sideload v64, v72, and then v74. This is to make sure you don't get stuck on a half failed update. \
- From there you can sideload whatever new firmware you want.
(You can get update zips from a site. You can ask for that link in FreeXR) - From here, you will want to setup Private Quest
This requires at least v74 or above. I would make sure that if you are below v74, to reference the New In Box section above.
You will need to make sure you follow the > v60 > v64 > v72 > v74 path. If you are above v60 but below v74, just sideload what firmware is next on the list.
You can't downgrade. If you attempt to, nothing happens.
It will fail at 47% with the output x1.00 which just means it failed.
If the incremental that you are trying to sideload is lower than your current incremental, it will fail.
If its a PTC build that has a higher incremental, but a lower build date, it will fail.
I take no responsibility with what you do with your headset. Anything you do with root is not my concern or my own actions. Don't flash directly to partitions or mess with things you don't understand period. If you have to ask yourself "what is root?", you should probably do your own research before rooting your headset.
This is meant too help people use their headsets how they please without Meta breathing down their neck watching them constantly and restricting what they can and can't do with their hardware.
