Added
- A sign-in suggestion in Settings. If you have had SageThumbs a week and used it a few times,
opening Settings may show a small card explaining that signing in with a Connections account
carries your settings to your other machines. Dismissing it with "Not now" hides it for the
rest of the day; from the fourth time you see it, a "Remind me in a month" button appears
beside that, and you can pick it as often as you like. It never appears more than once a day, it
only ever appears as Settings opens rather than interrupting what you are doing, closing the
window counts the same as "Not now", and it is translated into all 36 languages SageThumbs
speaks. Nothing about it changes how thumbnails work, and signing in remains entirely optional:
every feature works exactly the same without an account.
Changed
- You now choose what goes in the corner of a thumbnail, and setup asks you once. Only one
thing fits in a thumbnail's bottom-right corner, and until now two separate tick boxes were
quietly fighting over it: turning on the format badge without also finding the second box let
Windows stamp the associated program's icon straight on top of it. Those two boxes are gone,
replaced by a single choice on the Appearance page, and the installer asks it on a first
install: Windows' file-type icon (what Explorer does on its own, and still the default),
a SageThumbs format mark (PSD, JXL, AVIF... so you can tell formats apart at a glance), or
nothing at all. Upgrading keeps whatever your old tick boxes were set to, and you can
change it any time in Settings.

More EPS files show a thumbnail. An EPS can carry a small built-in preview picture, and
SageThumbs reads that rather than running the PostScript. It was being thrown away whenever the
file had a blank line just after it, which some programs write and others don't, so whether your
EPS files worked came down to which program made them. Note that an EPS saved with no
preview at all still cannot be shown: drawing one would mean running the PostScript, which
SageThumbs deliberately never does. If your EPS files show nothing, re-save them with the
"include preview" option ticked. -
Quick preview button tooltips no longer describe the state you just left. The light/dark
button showed a moon while its tooltip still read "Light background", and it stayed wrong for
as long as the window was open, because a tooltip's text was only ever set once when the window
opened. Every tooltip now updates with the button it belongs to. Four more that had the same
problem were fixed at the same time: the pin now offers to stop keeping the window on top once
it is pinned, view-source offers the rendered view once you are looking at source, and mute and
repeat both say what clicking them will actually do. -
A plain-text email no longer writes itself into the preview's contents list. A line in a
message starting with#was being read as a document heading, so it showed up huge and added
itself to the outline down the side of the window. That line now shows as the text it is.
Quoted reply text and numbered lists still render properly, because there they really are what
they look like.

Portable (no installer)
Extract and run. Nothing is installed, nothing goes in the registry, no admin needed.
Settings live in SageThumbs2K.ini next to the exe.
You get the app and the command line tool: settings, convert and resize, quick
preview, screenshots, OCR, the colour picker and the folder tools.
Explorer thumbnails and the classic right-click menu work too. Turn them on with
st2k register, or the button in Settings under Advanced. That registers the handler
for your user account only: no installer, no administrator rights, nothing written
machine-wide. st2k register --off undoes it, and you should run that before moving
or deleting the folder, otherwise Windows is left pointing at a file that has gone.
Three things still need the installer, because Windows only accepts them registered
for the whole machine: the Explorer preview pane, the Details pane columns,
and the Windows 11 right-click menu (the compact one).
