Dragging sideways along the portal (the pill at the bottom of the screen that opens Orbit) runs
through the worlds while the finger is still down, one world every 36dp, so a single stroke can
cross all of them. The finger moving left goes to the next world, right to the previous one, like
the swipe on the content. Dragging up still opens Orbit and a tap still opens it too; a short
stroke that ends on the portal no longer opens Orbit by accident.
Changed
Orbit is reorganized. The tiles now read Feed, Inbox, Long reads, Discover, Messages, Bookmarks,
You, Settings. The Algorithms and Discover tiles, which both read as "the algorithm place", are
merged into one: it opens a panel with an entry into the Discover world and, below it, your own
feed list as before.
Messages has its own Orbit tile with its own unread badge. The Activity/Messages switch at the top
of Inbox is gone, and the Inbox tile now counts notifications only.
Swiping between worlds follows the order of the Orbit menu: Feed, Inbox, Long reads, Discover. It
used to be Feed, Discover, Long reads, Inbox. The slide towards Messages and Settings follows the
same order, with Messages after every world (it used to sit between Feed and Inbox).
The swipe from the screen edge now belongs to the lower half of the screen, where the thumb is,
and the upper half is left to the system back gesture. The band where the back gesture is turned
off moved from the middle of each edge to the bottom. Android allows at most 200dp of it per edge,
so on a tall phone it does not cover the whole lower half; above it, a swipe that starts a little
inside the edge still changes world.
