I'd like to make a governance suggestion: I think you should consider designating a co-owner, at least on crates.io. Someone who, at the very least, you would trust to handle an orderly transition to new maintainership, if something were to happen to you or if you were to decide maintenance of this crate wasn't a personal priority for you any more.
This is a useful precuation because changing a crate name, to use a fork, across the whole ecosystem, is quite a lot of work for everyone. (With a crate using unsafe, this can become suddenly urgent, if a bug is discovered.)
I don't have any specific recommendations, but I hope you have someone you would trust to do that. Your co-owner would have to be happy having their name listed of course, and ought to keep their crates.io (github) account reasonably secure, but they don't need a great deal of knowledge about the crate itself, or, really, Rust more generally.
