OpenEVP 0.10.1
Smoother updates
- After an update, OpenEVP now reopens only once setup has completely finished, including the recorder driver step. Before, it could open while setup was still working, which could cause a "failed to execute script" message.
- This takes effect from your next update after this one.
OpenEVP 0.10.0
Record live
- New Record live screen: pick a microphone, USB mic or line in, and watch the waveform and spectrogram as you record. Built for touch screens in the field.
- Tap MARK (or press M) the moment something happens. It marks the last 3 seconds so you can grade it later in the EVP Library.
- Tap Listen to hear the input in your headphones, with volume, voice only, rumble and hiss cut, and hum removal. Only what you hear changes. The recording is always the raw sound.
- Recordings go straight into your EVP Library as WAV files. If OpenEVP or the PC shuts down mid recording, what you recorded is kept and finished at the next start.
- Very long sessions carry on into a second file, so there's no time limit apart from your disk space.
- A warning tells you if no sound is coming in, in case the mic is muted.
Import from an old recorder
- Got a recorder with only a headphone jack, like the Panasonic RR-DR60? Plug it into the PC, press Record, play your recordings, and press Stop.
- OpenEVP suggests where each recording starts and ends. Check the cuts, then split them into separate recordings. The full copy is always kept too.
Night screen
- A Night screen switch in the top bar turns the whole app dark red on black, so it's easy on the eyes in the dark.
OpenEVP 0.9.10
Safer deleting and sharing
- Delete never deletes for good. If a file can't go to the Recycle Bin (for example it's too big for it), OpenEVP now refuses and leaves it where it is, instead of letting Windows delete it permanently.
- Closing OpenEVP while it's renaming, moving or deleting now waits for that to finish.
- When you drag out a Sony
.dvf, OpenEVP only sends the WAV next to it if it's really the same recording. Otherwise it makes a fresh MP3. - Shared files are always fresh copies, so nothing the receiving app does can change what you share next time.
- More checks that files you play or export are really inside your library.
Tidier names
- The command-line tool is now
openevp-cli.exe(it wasopenevp-st25.exe). The old one is removed when you update.
OpenEVP 0.9.9
Drag recordings out
- Drag any recording or clip from the EVP Library straight into Discord, WhatsApp, an email or your desktop, just like from File Explorer.
- Select several and drag them all at once.
- Sony
.dvfrecordings arrive as a playable file (their WAV, or an MP3 made on the spot). - Prefer the keyboard? Right-click → Copy file (or Ctrl+C), then paste into your chat.
Delete from the library
- Right-click a recording or clip → Delete…, press the Delete key, or use the Delete button above the list.
- Deleted files go to the Recycle Bin, and their EVP marks come back if you restore them.
Fixes
- Deleting a folder in the EVP Library works again.
- WhatsApp no longer crashes when you send a clip it saved as
.mpeg: OpenEVP now shares those as.mp3.
OpenEVP 0.9.8
See everything you missed
- From the next update on, the update window shows what's new in every version you skipped, not just the newest one.
Also
- The dot on the View tab now also shows when the waveform is zoomed in.
OpenEVP 0.9.7
Find your files in File Explorer
- Right-click a recording or clip in the EVP Library → Show in File Explorer opens the folder with that file highlighted.
- Right-click a folder → Open in File Explorer.
OpenEVP 0.9.6
Clips from clips
- Open a clip, mark the part you want, and use Export clips or Save clip, just like with a recording.
- Or right-click a marked clip in the EVP Library → Export clips.
- The new clips go right next to the clip they came from, in the same Clips folder.
- Exporting clips for a whole folder still skips existing clips, so nothing gets duplicated.
OpenEVP 0.9.5
Hear more in your recordings
- New Enhance tab next to the waveform:
- Boost to make quiet parts louder.
- Leveler evens out whispers and loud bangs.
- Voice filter, Cut rumble and Cut hiss clean up what you don't need.
- Hum remover takes out 60 Hz (or 50 Hz) electrical hum.
- Everything changes live while you listen. Your recordings and marks are never changed.
Noise reduction
- Select a stretch of plain background noise and click Learn noise, then turn on Reduce noise in the Enhance tab.
- Start gently: too much can make things sound "watery", which can trick the ear.
Spectrogram
- A colour view under the waveform, on by default. Voices show up as stacked bright bands, so you can often see an EVP before you hear it.
- Turn it off in the View tab if you don't want it.
Tidier controls
- The controls beside the waveform are now three tabs: View, Speed and Enhance. A dot on a tab means something in it is switched on.
- Tick Exports enhanced to save clips exactly as you hear them (the file name says
_enhanced).
OpenEVP 0.9.4
MP3 files work everywhere
- Any MP3 in your EVP Library is now a full recording: play it, see the waveform, mark EVPs, loop, change speed and export clips.
- Clips saved from WhatsApp (they end in
.mpeg) show up too. - Open audio file… (was Open WAV file…) opens MP3s as well as WAVs.
- MP3s count toward your EVP totals, except clips inside a Clips folder, same as before.
OpenEVP 0.9.3
Playback speed
- New Speed slider under Zoom and Height: 0.25× to 2×, and you can change it while listening.
- Keep pitch (on by default) slows speech without making it deeper. Turn it off for a tape-style slowdown where voices drop lower.
- Keyboard: [ slower, ] faster, \ back to 1×. Double-click the slider to reset it.
Export at that speed
- When the speed isn't 1×, tick Exports at 0.5× (or whatever speed you're on) to save clips and Save with marks at that speed.
- File names show the speed, like
_0.5x(or_0.5x-tapewith Keep pitch off). Your original recordings and marks stay at normal speed.
