MacroPhase — Cloud Companion Beta ☁️

MacroPhase Cloud is here.

This update introduces the first version of the MacroPhase Cloud Companion: a web workspace that can connect directly to your MacroPhase Android app.

Your phone is still the primary MacroPhase experience, and Cloud Sync is entirely optional. MacroPhase continues to work locally without enabling or using the cloud.

Beta access required

The Cloud Companion is currently in private beta and requires a valid Beta Key.

To get one, join the MacroPhase Discord and ask for beta access.

☁️ Optional Cloud Sync

MacroPhase can now sync supported data from your Android device to the cloud.

Cloud Sync is completely optional. If you prefer to keep MacroPhase local-only, nothing changes.

Sync currently supports:

  • Food logs
  • Macro targets
  • Weight history
  • Custom foods
  • Recipes
  • Health data
  • Favorites
  • Coach memory
  • Body measurements
  • Recovery & activity
  • Training context
  • TDEE & trend data

Each category syncs independently, and you can control what gets uploaded from the Cloud Sync page.

The Android app remains the primary working copy. Cloud data reflects what has actually reached the server from your device.

🖥️ New Cloud Companion

Beta users now have access to a completely new web interface.

The Overview dashboard gives you a quick look at:

  • Daily calorie intake
  • Macro progress
  • Weight and metabolism trends
  • Estimated expenditure
  • Foods logged today
  • Cloud sync status
  • Recent data updates

The goal isn't to replace the Android app. It's to give MacroPhase a larger workspace when you want one.

🍽️ Food on the Web

The Cloud Companion includes dedicated areas for:

  • Food Log
  • Food Database
  • Recipes

Your synced food data can now be viewed from the web, with deeper web functionality coming throughout the beta.
You can now share your recipes and custom foods with other MacroPhase users via a link, as well as submit them to the MacroPhase community for everyone to see.

📈 Health, Weight & Trends

Synced health and body data now has a home outside the app.

The web companion includes dedicated sections for:

  • Health data
  • Weight & trends
  • Recovery & activity
  • TDEE data

Some calculations still remain Android-side and sync to the cloud once available.

🔌 MCP Connections

MacroPhase Cloud now includes Remote MCP support.

Supported AI clients currently include:

  • ChatGPT
  • Grok
  • Claude
  • Gemini Spark (US)
  • Mistral Le Chat
  • Cursor

Each supported client includes a native connection guide inside the Cloud Companion, so you can connect MacroPhase without having to dig through random documentation or guess which URL goes where.

Client support and account eligibility may vary.

More integrations are planned.

🔄 Sync Transparency

The Cloud Sync page shows exactly what has reached the cloud.

For each supported category you can see:

  • Whether syncing is enabled
  • Whether data has been received
  • Record counts
  • Last sync time
  • Categories still waiting for Android

No fake “everything is synced” state just because one connection indicator happens to be green.

🔐 Private Beta

Cloud functionality is currently limited to Beta users.

To get a Beta Key, join the MacroPhase Discord and ask for access.

Access is being kept limited initially while sync reliability, infrastructure, MCP connections, and the web companion are tested with real MacroPhase data.

👤 Account Support

The current Cloud Companion beta uses Google sign-in.

Support for non-Google sign-ups and additional account options is coming soon.

Local MacroPhase usage does not require the Cloud Companion.

MacroPhase started as a local Android nutrition tracker.

Now, if you want it to, it can follow you beyond the phone.

The latest app update also contains some bug fixes and improvements unrelated to the cloud.

What's Changed

⚡ Performance & Optimization

  • Faster & Smoother Beta Builds: Compiler optimizations and code minification on beta releases, significantly reducing app stutter and improving overall responsiveness.
  • Over a 90% reduction in frame drops and micro-stutters during navigation and animations—everything should feel noticeably snappier.

🐛 Bug Fixes & Stability

  • Fixed Unexpected App Exit on Back Press: Resolved an issue where pressing the system back button would accidentally close the app instead of navigating back through previous screens.
  • Refined Display & Frame Rate Handling: Restored native system display mode management for smoother, more stable screen refresh rates and better battery efficiency.

MacroPhase Beta: The Workflow & Flexibility Update

The Workflow & Flexibility Update

This update makes everyday logging faster, gives you more control over your calorie budget, and brings a cleaner visual experience across the app.

Faster Food Logging

  • Type amounts naturally: Enter amounts like 150g, 250 ml, or 2 servings directly into the amount field.
  • Cleaner food details: Calories, macros, target impact, daily progress, and food actions are now organized into a clearer layout.
  • More flexible input: Typed amounts, serving presets, and the keypad now work together more smoothly.
  • Better serving defaults: Search results use more useful natural serving amounts where available.

Better Recipes

  • Scan ingredients while building recipes: Barcode scanning now works directly from ingredient search.
  • Find previously scanned foods: Scanned products can also appear in normal text search.
  • Explode recipe logs: Split a logged recipe back into its individually scaled ingredients directly in your food log.
  • More recipe controls: Edit, duplicate, delete, or convert recipes into custom foods from the detail sheet.

Flexible Calorie Budgeting

  • Move calories between days: Shift part of your calorie budget to another day without moving or rewriting the food you actually ate.
  • Keep food history accurate: Logged food stays attached to the correct day while only the calorie budget changes.
  • Respects food-day settings: Budget transfers follow your configured food-day cutoff automatically.

Smarter Food Actions

  • Customize your action bar: Choose which food actions appear, hide ones you do not use, and reorder the rest.
  • Context-aware actions: Available actions adapt depending on whether you are viewing a database food, custom food, recipe, or existing log.
  • Quick actions your way: Choose up to eight shortcuts and use four-item, compact, search, or list layouts.
  • Adjust the toolbar style: Choose between soft, contrast, or quiet appearances.

AI Food Tools

  • Ask for better swaps: Get alternatives that better fit your remaining calories or macros.
  • Explain foods: Get a quick nutritional breakdown of a food.
  • Fill missing micronutrients: Complete missing micronutrient data for custom foods and save the results back to the entry.

New Themes & Visual Polish

  • New themes: Added OLED, Slate, Warm, and Espresso alongside the existing light and dark appearances.
  • Bundled 3D food artwork: Noto 3D food and quick-action artwork is now included directly in the app and works offline.
  • Cleaner food rows and timelines: Food names, nutrition summaries, spacing, and row actions have been refined.
  • Improved dashboard visuals: Nutrition summaries and analytics surfaces are more consistent across themes.

Smaller Improvements

  • Favorites use the correct serving: Instant-added favorites now reliably use their saved serving amount.
  • Better search budget view: Expand the compact calorie indicator to see calorie and macro progress together.
  • Smarter empty-day suggestions: Suggested meal times can reflect when you usually log food.
  • Improved weigh-in reminders: Dismissed reminders stay dismissed, and tapping one opens the correct weigh-in screen.

🚀 What's New

  • Reverse serving calculator
In the food log/edit sheet you can lock onto calories, protein, fat, or carbs, type the number you want, and it fills in the grams. Example: tap 'Calories', enter 300 kcal on chicken breast, get ~173 g. Live chips + impact rings so you see what that serving does to the day before you hit Add.

🐛 Squashed

  • Dashboard scroll crash — scrolling the dashboard no longer takes the app down with it.
  • Smoother dashboard + food log — fast-scroll lag is gone. Both screens should feel snappier.
  • Camera & photo picker — high-res shots and picker images don’t crash. Rotated photos stay the right way up.
  • Timeline swipes — deleting/editing meals doesn’t leave the swipe stuck or jittery.
  • Barcode scanner — opening, closing, or jumping to search doesn’t leave the scanner in a weird state.
  • Timeline & dashboard cards — hour blocks, meal grouping, and card edges line up again.
  • Food edit sheet — no more clipped layout or keyboard fighting the sheet.

What's New ✨

  • One Model Sheet, Three Roles — Coach / Vision / Insight aren’t three separate pickers anymore.

    • Long-press a model → assign roles — set Coach, Food Scanner & Vision, and AI Insights from one dialog.
    • Role tags on the row — see what’s active at a glance; “Set All Supported” when you want one model everywhere it can run.
    • Settings opens the same sheet — tap the model card in AI Settings; the old ModelPickerRow path is gone.
  • Food-Log Swipes You Can Remap — delete / edit / copy / none, per direction.

    • App Behavior → Food Log Swipes — swipe right and swipe left are independent.
    • Copy is a first-class action — timeline can copy on swipe; delete still gets undo after a short exit animation.
    • Swipe container rewrite — configurable actions, no double-collapse stutter on delete.
  • Smaller Downloads, Smarter Updates — we stopped shipping every ABI in one fat APK.

    • ABI splits released — armeabi-v7a, arm64-v8a, x86, x86_64, plus a universal APK.
    • In-app updater picks your ABI — prefers device ABI, then universal, then first available APK (AGP-style names included).
    • I have also added another universal APK that uses the old naming system to not break anything.
  • Nutrient Charts That Don’t Fake Empty Days — food micros/macros no longer treat “didn’t log” as zero.

    • Unlogged food days = gaps — averages ignore null days; long-range lines break across gaps instead of dragging through fake zeros.
    • Water / caffeine still count empty days as 0 — intentional; those are “you drank nothing” days.
    • TDEE / estimator math left alone — this is display/chart averaging only.
  • Plate Photos Without Melting RAM — camera URIs decode with sampling + max-dimension scaling before JPEG encode, so 12–48MP shots don’t OOM the scanner.

  • Recipes Remember Last Masses — logging a recipe with overridden ingredient grams can persist those defaults and recompute recipe totals for next time.

  • Scanner That Sleeps When You’re Not Scanning — barcode camera binds only while the scanner route is active / not paused after a hit, so background sheets don’t keep the lens thrashing.

  • Timeline Macro Pager That Settles Cleanly — consumed/remaining swipe uses spring fling, ignores mid-gesture external sync, and snaps only after the page settles.

Bugs Squashed 🐛

  • xAI That Stays Signed In — SuperGrok OAuth no longer dies quietly mid-session.
    • Auto-refresh with a 5-minute buffer — tokens refresh before they expire, with a mutex so concurrent calls don’t stampede the auth endpoint.
    • 401 → refresh → retry — chat, Responses API, vision, model fetch, and quick-log all retry once with a fresh token instead of just failing.
    • Foreground + launch refresh — app start and coming back to the foreground proactively keep the session warm.
    • Invalid refresh cleanup — revoked/invalid_grant sessions clear stale tokens and fall back to the API key / re-auth path.
  • Tap a logged food → accidentally “edit” it — tap now copies/adds; swipe-edit (or explicit edit) is the true edit path, with Save vs Add labeled correctly.
  • Nutrient averages tanked by blank days — unlogged food days no longer dilute averages (e.g. three 3000-cal days + one blank ≠ 2250).
  • Delete swipe animation stuttered / double-collapsed — container no longer fights itself on removal.
  • Barcode camera kept running under overlays — inactive/paused scanner unbinds; active resumes cleanly.
  • Back from home felt like a trap — root back finishes the activity instead of doing nothing useful.
  • Today’s calorie target lagged old check-ins in ranges — current target wins for today and future dates in the repository path.
  • Plate scan OOMs on big camera images — sampled decode + scale-before-encode.
  • Fixed i18n keys for food-log swipe actions (+ a few common labels).

What's New ✨

  • New Provider: xAI / Grok Integration — Added support for xAI models alongside Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, and OpenRouter. Includes device code sign-in for SuperGrok accounts (no manual API key copy-pasting required, though raw API keys are still supported as a fallback).
  • Updated Model Sheet & Provider Controls:
    • Live Model Catalog — Dynamically fetches available models across all connected providers with refresh, quality badges, and pricing context so the list stays current without hardcoded updates.
    • Thinking Level Controls — Dial your coach's reasoning effort from None → Low → Medium → High → X-High depending on how hard you want it to think (available on xAI, Gemini, OpenAI, and Claude models).
    • Server Tools Support — Toggle server-side search context for supported backends to pull real-time web context into coach chats.
  • Under the Hood — Native client implementation with streaming tool calling, reasoning traces, and unified coach workflow routing.

What's New ✨

  • Training That Talks to Your Food Log — Workouts finally live next to calories, not in a separate gym app you never open.

    • Dashboard Training Card — See today vs this week at a glance: completed, planned, rest, or “we don’t know yet.” Missing data is unknown, not a fake rest day.
    • Splits You Actually Use — Full body, upper/lower, PPL, anterior/posterior, bro split, weekdays, or custom. Log a session, assign a split day, keep Health Connect imports generic until you say otherwise.
    • Pre-Workout Nutrition Reminders — Timed from your usual training hour and what’s already logged — not a generic “go to the gym” alarm. Optional caffeine-window note that auto-silences for late sessions so sleep doesn’t get wrecked.
    • Coach Context — Phase can see your split, today’s status, and meal timing around training. Opt in, opt out anytime.
  • Caffeine, Modeled Like a Drug (Because It Is) — Coffee is no longer a mystery micronutrient in a list.

    • Active-Now + Bedtime Forecast — 45-minute absorption, exponential decay, configurable half-life (fast → very slow). Dashboard card shows what’s in your system and what’s left at bedtime.
    • Safe / Moderate / High Sleep Window — Under 25 mg at bedtime is the sleep floor; over 50 mg is “you’re buying worse deep sleep.” Cutoff time for today, not a lecture.
    • Decay Curve + Logged Sources — Tap through to the 24h clearance curve, every coffee/tea/energy drink you logged, and a correlation against your deep-sleep nights vs clean baseline days.
    • Cutoff Reminder — Optional ping when the safe window closes.
  • Scan From Search, Not a Treasure Hunt — Barcode is in the search bar where your thumb already is.

    • Scanner Shortcut in Search — Dashboard search, food log, wherever you type a food — tap scan, point, log.
  • Search That Finds “Paneer,” Not “Cheese Product, Imitation, Dried” — Local + OFF results now rank like a human would.

    • Head-Noun Ranking — Whole-word matches beat substring junk. Simple forms (raw, whole, plain, fresh) rise; dried / canned / imitation / restaurant composites sink.
    • CIQUAL Bundled — French composition data ships with the app so more real foods resolve offline.
  • Dashboard & Food Log, Decomposed — Same home, less monolith. The code has been refactored to be less monolithic. It will perform better on low-end devices.

  • In-App Updates That Don’t Feel Like a Sideload Ritual — Download, install, retry, “open in browser” — a proper update sheet with changelog markdown, not a mystery APK link.

Bugs Squashed 🐛

  • AI custom foods dropped micros after day one — Micros stuck to the creation date. Log the same food tomorrow and the micros actually come with it.
  • Jittery dashboard card morphs — Expenditure / Weight / Steps / Sleep / Progress / nutrients / Coach expands and collapses without the stutter.
  • Food search burying the actual food — Plain queries (“egg”, “rice”, “chicken”) no longer lose to restaurant composites, dried variants, and imitation junk. The thing you typed should be near the top.
  • New strategy/program didn’t stick — Saving a program wrote the screen, then macros snapped back to the old targets. New program stays saved.
  • Home screen widgets spun forever — Glance widgets were stuck on the loading spinner. They load real numbers or fail cleanly instead of hanging.
  • “Log Foods” pill did nothing — Had to use the plate dropdown. The pill logs the plate like it always should have.
  • Notifications not arriving on time was fixed.

What's New ✨

  • Motion, Gestures & That Premium Feel — The whole app now moves like it was built for your thumb, not a spreadsheet.

    • Card → Screen Morphs — Tap Expenditure, Weight, Steps, Sleep, Progress, nutrients, or Coach on the dashboard and the card expands into the full screen (and morphs back on swipe-back). Apple Health energy, minus the subscription.
    • Swipe to Edit / Delete — Food log, recipes, custom foods, weight entries, and memories: swipe left to edit, swipe right to delete, with live preview badges, haptics, and a satisfying collapse when something's gone.
    • Quick Actions from the + — The center + now rotates into a customizable action sheet. Log food, scan, weigh in, hit Coach, or jump wherever you actually live — then tune the shortcuts to match your routine.
    • Spring Physics Everywhere — Pills slide, keys compress, tabs fade, sheets settle. Haptics on the important taps. The numpad and toggle pills finally feel like hardware.
  • Edit Any Food Locally — Wrong Open Food Facts numbers? Fix them once, keep them forever.

    • Local Overrides — Correct name, brand, macros, serving, and emoji on any scanned or searched product. MacroPhase uses your values every time that barcode or product comes back.
    • "Locally Edited" Badge — Instantly see which foods you've corrected vs. the public database.
    • Upstream Update Alerts — If Open Food Facts later changes the product, you get a side-by-side: your version vs. theirs. Keep yours, or take the update. Reset to OFF anytime.
  • A Real Profile — The More tab is no longer a settings dump. It's you.

    • Photo + Name — Set a profile picture and username so the app actually feels like yours.
    • Highlight Cards — Pin up to 3 stats on your profile: days logged, current streak, weight change, today's calories, body fat, and more.
    • Redesigned More Tab — Cleaner feature rows, a shopping spotlight (best value / price history / nutrition from your purchases), and a toggle to hide the shopping card if you don't want it.
  • Body Fat Milestones — Weight checkpoints were just the start.

    • Flip between Weight and Body Fat on the milestones card and drop % checkpoints along the way — same celebrate-as-you-go energy, now for composition.
  • Auto-Backup That Actually Runs — Set it and stop worrying about a dead phone.

    • Pick a folder (local or cloud via the system picker), choose daily or weekly, keep N backups, and hit Back Up Now whenever you want. Last success/fail is right there in Profile.
  • LLM-Only Macro Estimation — For restaurant meals, cooking styles, and messy real food.

    • Optional AI setting that turns off external food-DB search so Phase reasons natively: "2 scrambled eggs and sourdough with butter" stays that, not a stripped generic match.
  • Visual Refresh — Deeper charcoal surfaces, cleaner layering, tighter cards. Same design language, just darker and more expensive-looking.

Bugs Squashed 🐛

  • Widgets Actually Appear — Widget config now falls back to updateAll + a system broadcast if Glance ID lookup fails, so new widgets don't sit blank on the home screen.
  • Food Sheet Back Press & Decimal Entry — Back dismisses the sheet instead of eating the screen; decimals type the way you expect.
  • Text Field Typing Glitches — Input no longer fights you while you're trying to type a weight or a name.
  • Food Log Time Handling — Logged items respect the time you picked, not "whenever the save happened."

What's New ✨

  • MacroFactor XLSX Favorites & Recipe Import — Greatly enhanced the MacroFactor data migration pipeline:
    • Favorites Sheet Support — Now seamlessly imports your favorited items from MacroFactor exports, populating both your Favorites shelf and your custom foods database with custom servings and emojis.
    • Smart Recipe Deduplication — Recipes are now prioritized during import, preventing MacroFactor's exported recipe summaries from cluttering your custom foods list as duplicates.
    • Full Micronutrient Alignment — Aligned and mapped 35+ micronutrient columns (fats, fiber, sugars, vitamins A–K, minerals, caffeine, and more) so imported custom foods retain complete nutritional breakdowns.
  • Seamless Health Connect Weight Sync — Weight records from smart scales connected via Health Connect now sync directly into both the weight log and the TDEE calculation engine automatically on app launch, food logging, or when viewing the Weight Log screen.

Bugs Squashed 🐛

  • Text Input & Typing Glitches — Fixed an issue where typing quickly in the Food Search bar, custom AI model picker, API key inputs, or Base URL field caused the cursor to jump to the end or drop characters due to state emission lag.
  • Health Connect Permissions & Background Sync — Resolved a bug where returning to the app after granting Health Connect permissions in Android settings did not refresh the permission status. Also corrected background sync scheduling so daily and immediate sync options maintain reliable periodic checks.
  • MacroFactor Custom Food Scaling — Fixed serving weight and quantity scaling calculations so calories and macros per 100g are accurately converted when importing custom foods with custom portion sizes.
  • Day Macro Editor Digit Entry — Fixed a glitch in the custom calorie target input where deleting or modifying digits would prematurely snap back or fail to register values.
