Attune 0.2.0
The listening model is trained now. It wasn't before.
Every version up to 0.1.2 listened to your music with a copy of the CLAP model that, it turned out, had never been trained. It still made 512 numbers per song, and mixes still came out sounding related, but those numbers weren't what a trained ear makes. 0.2.0 has the model its makers actually trained. Same model, same size, different numbers inside.
What changes
- A library scanned by 0.2.0 gets mixed a new way, the sound profile. The sound of each song comes first, run through a small extra layer that learned which artists ListenBrainz listeners play together. Genre tags, how far apart the years are, and five sensations measured from the sound itself (Pulse, Glow, Heat, Voice and Grain) adjust the order. Tempo doesn't count any more.
- Nobody has judged the sound profile by ear yet, me included. It was picked by how well it finds songs people listen to together: on my library, 49 in 100 picks by other artists were by an artist people play alongside the starting song's artist, against 33 for 0.1.2. I think that's a good sign, but it's not a listening test. So if a mix sounds wrong, tell me.
- The name beside the mix dials says which recipe you're on, Attune sound profile or Attune V2, and the dials start where that recipe puts them.
- Earfeel columns (Pulse, Glow, Heat, Voice, Grain) can be turned on from the right-click menu on the column headers, for a library scanned by 0.2.0.
Coming from 0.1
- Install over the top. Your library, playlists and settings carry on, and your mixes keep working exactly as they did, on the old recipe.
- New songs wait. The old fingerprints and the new ones are unrelated numbers, so a scan won't add new songs to an older library -- it says so instead. To bring the library across, open Preferences, Library, and under Sound fingerprints press Fingerprint every song again.
- It copies your library first, then does every song again. About 1.6 seconds a song on my desktop PC's processor, so hours for a big library (about 9 for 21,000 songs). Stop halts it and Continue picks up where it left off. When it's done, Load now brings your library up under the sound profile.
Also new since 0.1.2
- Undo and Redo for every change to a mix or the queue: Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y, or the buttons in the top bar.
- Collections. Save what's on screen as a named set of up to 500 songs and mix from just those, under Draw from in Mix options.
- A mix stops when songs stop fitting. Ask for 50 and you get the ones that fit, with a sentence saying why it stopped. It's on by default as Stop when songs stop fitting in Mix options. Under the sound profile about a quarter of starting songs stop short of 10 on my library, so turn it off if you want a full list. Where that line belongs is still to be decided by ear.
- Steering a Blend or an Adventure keeps it one, and the songs a mix was built from stay in it.
- Right-click the song that's playing, in the bottom bar, Track Info or the mini player.
Fixed
- Some MP3 files that nothing could open now open.
Getting it
Download AttuneSetup-0.2.0.exe, or Attune-0.2.0-win64.zip if you'd rather not install anything. Windows will say "Windows protected your PC" because the file isn't code-signed: click More info, then Run anyway. SHA256SUMS.txt lets you check the download is the real one.

Listening model: CLAP music, v2 (trained weights)
The audio embedding model Attune listens with, published once as a release asset so it is not carried in the repository.
This file replaces the one under model-clap-music-v1. That earlier file was exported from the Hugging Face release laion/larger_clap_music, which turned out to hold a network that was never trained. This one is the same model with the weights its makers trained: music_audioset_epoch_15_esc_90.14.pt from lukewys/laion_clap (CC0-1.0), in the laion/larger_clap_music architecture (Apache-2.0, per its model card). The audio tower and projection are exported to ONNX in float32 with the per-clip normalization and the mean over three windows baked into the graph. The weights are not retrained, fine-tuned, quantized or otherwise altered. The file names its weights in its own metadata (clap_weights).
Fingerprints made with this file and with the earlier one are unrelated numbers. Attune records in each library which kind it holds and never mixes the two; tools/refingerprint.py moves a library made with the earlier file across. Attune 0.1.0 to 0.1.2 use the earlier file and are not affected by this one.
Provenance, the checks it passed and the feature constants are in src/models/clap_norm.json in the repository; the licence account is NOTICE.md section 8.
tools/fetch_model.py downloads this file into place and checks its SHA-256:

Attune 0.1.2
Export is where the list ends, and it says where it goes.
- Every mix, queue and playlist now ends in a SEND TO bar, the way a Winamp playlist window keeps its buttons along the bottom: a readout of how many songs and how long, then two named destinations, Plex playlist and USB / car folder, each one click.
- Plex writes the playlist straight away and the bar reports "On Plex now" with the count. USB opens the folder picker at the last folder you used and copies on OK, with a progress bar in the same strip.
- If Plex is not connected yet, the button stays on screen, dashed, and clicking it opens Preferences, Plex.
- More... holds what the old Export panel held: download a playlist file, save it to the playlist folder, choose the path style, mirror a folder to Plex. Copy to USB and Export left the row above the list.
Fixed
- Nothing grows when the pointer rests on it. Rating stars, the heart and album cards used to scale up or lift on hover; they now only change colour.
- No black window while scanning. When Attune falls back to ffprobe to read a file's tags, that program now runs hidden like every other one Attune starts.
Getting it
Download AttuneSetup-0.1.2.exe, or Attune-0.1.2-win64.zip if you'd rather not install anything. Windows will say "Windows protected your PC" because the file isn't code-signed: click More info, then Run anyway. SHA256SUMS.txt has the checksums.

Attune 0.1.1
The window got calmer, and the song list became the playlist.
- Every mix, queue and playlist is numbered in play order. Drag songs to re-order them. The bar above the list does Play, Save as new, Save, Copy to USB and Export, on the list exactly as shown.
- The genre, artist and album boxes fold away, Smart Views and playlist folders fold shut, and the side panel shows the playing song only. The status line says songs, albums, artists and running time.
- Hover over any button, dial or setting and it says what it does.
- Previous, Play, Stop and Next are raised buttons; Shuffle, Repeat, Auto-DJ and Radio are labelled switches. Pick the display colour in Preferences, Appearance: green, amber, hi-fi blue or modern white.
- Song list columns resize by dragging the edge of a header, and titles get more room by default.
- The first run ends in music: Start mixing builds a Genius mix and plays it.
- The two mix switches are named for what they do: Avoid near-identical picks, and Arrange for flow.
Fixed
- The album view shows covers and names again. In 0.1.0 every tile was a thin line.
- Download .m3u8 and Create Plex playlist send the list as you see it, instead of rebuilding the mix from its first song.
- Dropdown lists are dark in dark themes instead of white.
Security
- Only the PC Attune runs on can change anything. Seventeen commands had each forgotten their own copy of that check; it is one check now, with a test that fails if any command can be reached from another machine. On default settings Attune only ever listens to its own PC, so this matters only if you start it with
--host 0.0.0.0.
Getting it
Download AttuneSetup-0.1.1.exe, or Attune-0.1.1-win64.zip if you'd rather not install anything. Windows will say "Windows protected your PC" because the file isn't code-signed: click More info, then Run anyway. SHA256SUMS.txt has the checksums.

Attune 0.1.0
Attune 0.1.0 - the first public cut
Attune makes a playlist that sounds like the song you picked. You point it at your music, it listens to every track once, and after that you choose a song and get a playlist of tracks that share its sound rather than its genre tag. Everything happens on your own computer. There is no account, no upload and nothing sent anywhere.
It is a replacement for MusicIP Mixer, which people relied on for years and which has been abandoned since 2010.
This is a first release. It works, and it is rough in the places listed under "What you should know" below. Please read those before you download 430 MB.
Get it
- AttuneSetup-0.1.0.exe - the installer, 429.8 MiB. Installs for your user only, so it never asks for an administrator password. This is the one most people want.
- Attune-0.1.0-win64.zip - the same program as a plain folder, 491.8 MiB. Unzip it anywhere and run
Attune.exe. Nothing is installed and nothing is written outside the folder except your settings. - SHA256SUMS.txt - fingerprints, if you want to check the download arrived intact. See below.
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. About 890 MiB of disk once installed.
Windows will warn you, and here is why
The first time you run the installer, Windows shows a blue box saying "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.
This happens because the file is not code-signed. Signing means paying a company to vouch for the publisher's identity, and this is a one-person free project that has not done that yet. Microsoft's own documentation is clear that an unsigned program starts from zero reputation on every new version, so this warning will not go away as more people download it, and it will come back with every future release. It is not a sign that anything is wrong, and it is also not proof that anything is right. If you would rather not trust a stranger's executable, the whole source is on this repository and you can build it yourself.
Checking your download
In PowerShell:
Get-FileHash .\AttuneSetup-0.1.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256
Compare the result against the line in SHA256SUMS.txt. If you have Git Bash, WSL or a Mac, sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt does both files at once.

What you should know before downloading
- It is a big download. 430 MB for the installer, about 890 MB installed. Most of that is the machine-learning model that listens to your music, plus the audio libraries around it. A later release will be smaller.
- Analysing your library takes a long time, once. Every track has to be listened to before anything can be mixed. Expect hours for a large collection. It runs in the background and it only happens once per track.
- On first launch you get a welcome window that asks where your music is, scans it, and opens onto your library when the scan is done. You can skip the scan and come back to it from Preferences under Library.
- Attune needs Microsoft's WebView2 runtime, the embedded browser control the window is drawn in. It is part of Windows 11 and of most Windows 10 machines that receive updates. Without it, Attune tells you so when it starts and points you at Microsoft's WebView2 download page (https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge/webview2/); install the "Evergreen" runtime and start Attune again.
- There is no automatic update. To move to a later version, download it and install over the top.
- Close Attune before upgrading, and if you cancel an upgrade halfway through, install it again. Upgrading deliberately removes the old program files before writing the new ones, so that nothing stale is left behind. Two things interrupt that: cancelling in the middle, and leaving Attune running and telling the installer not to close it. Either leaves the app incomplete until you run the installer again. Your settings and your analysed library are never touched by any of it.
- Do not install into a very deep folder. Windows still refuses file paths over 259 characters, and Attune's own files use about 120 of those. The installer checks and will tell you if the folder you chose is too long. The folder it suggests is well inside the limit.
- Attune talks only to itself, over a private address on your own machine. A web page you have open in a browser on the same machine could in principle reach that address too. This is true of every program that works this way, it was not introduced by this release, and a fix is planned. If it concerns you, close your browser while Attune runs.
- Windows only, for now.
Removing it
Settings, then Apps, then Attune, then Uninstall. Or the "Uninstall Attune" entry in the Start menu. It removes the program and leaves your settings and your analysed library alone, in %APPDATA%\Attune. Delete that folder by hand if you want no trace.
If you used the portable zip, delete the folder.
Licence
Attune's own source is MIT. The built application you download here is conveyed under GPL-3.0-or-later, because it links a GPL tag-reading library and ships FFmpeg beside it. For you as a user that changes nothing: run it, for anything, forever, and you owe nobody anything. The full account, the list of every component inside the app and every licence text, travel with the program: NOTICE.md, THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and the licenses folder sit beside Attune.exe in both the installer and the zip.
