Amonite 1.0.0 Beta

The first public beta release of Amonite Standard.

Highlights

  • A more resilient boot and graphical-session experience, with visible console feedback when the desktop is starting or cannot be started.
  • A fail-safe boot option for systems where the normal graphics stack cannot bring up the display.
  • LibreWolf as the default web browser.
  • Updated local AI inference with llama.cpp 10271 and its packaged llama-server service.
  • Debian backports used for the GGML library instead of a vendored copy.
  • Improved login-screen integration with Amonite's own wallpaper and cursor theme.
  • Restart added to the desktop session's power menu.
  • zram-backed swap and console keyboard configuration included in the default system.
  • Improved graphics handling for older Intel Pineview hardware.

Notes

This beta builds on the desktop experience established in Alpha 2 and focuses on making the system more resilient and transparent during boot, login and recovery.

The installed system now keeps kernel and service messages visible during boot instead of hiding them behind quiet. The graphical session also reports its startup and failure state through the console, providing a usable recovery path when the desktop cannot be started normally.

The login screen has been brought into closer alignment with the Amonite desktop, while the default browser and local AI stack have been updated for the beta release.

The project continues to prioritize:

  • simplicity;
  • efficiency;
  • security;
  • privacy;
  • maintainability.

This release is intended for evaluation and testing.

The Intel Pineview graphics configuration and the corresponding PCI access library fix are implemented, but have not been confirmed on the affected physical hardware.

Amonite Beta may still contain bugs, incomplete features or hardware compatibility issues and should not yet be considered production-ready.
