RigShift 4.0.3
Download RigShift-win-Setup.exe - installs for your Windows user without administrator rights and keeps itself up to date. RigShift-win-Portable.zip runs from a folder without installing. The other files are for the updater and for checking the download.
RigShift is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may ask first: More info → Run anyway. To check a download, compare it with SHA256SUMS or run gh attestation verify RigShift-win-Setup.exe --repo ManuelStaggl/RigShift.

Fixed
- A Surround profile showed "Blocked" while Surround was off (#9), so it could not be switched to from the app. The
wide Surround display carries the EDID of one of its monitors, and with the grid down those monitors are listed on
their own – RigShift took them for identical monitors it could not tell apart. The Surround display is now only
matched as itself, and until the switch has built the grid it no longer counts as missing.

Fixed
- NVIDIA Surround would not switch on from a desktop without Surround (#7): the driver refused every new grid with
"no active SLI topology", because RigShift asked it to keep a GPU topology that only exists while Surround runs. It
now retries without that restriction – first still without a driver reload, and only as the last resort with one. - A reverted switch no longer claims everything is back when Surround could not be switched on again; the message says
so and how to get it back.

Fixed
- NVIDIA Surround on/off (first report from a Surround rig): the driver's pre-check no longer blocks a grid – it is
known to reject grids the driver then builds fine, so it only goes to the log. Before building a grid, RigShift wakes
its displays one by one, so monitors the previous profile had switched off join it. The check that the driver really
changed something now gives it up to five seconds, and a failed Surround step puts the previous Surround state back.

RigShift went from 1.0 to 3.6 in its first week because every fix shipped the same day. 4.0 bundles the work since
then: a full review of every part of the app, with the rig – not the desk – as the place it has to work.
What's new in 4.0
- Confirm from the seat: any button on the wheel, button box or controller keeps a switch.
- More reliable at the real rig: Surround keeps its bezel correction, an HDMI/DP monitor's sound device is waited
for, identical monitors are told apart after a new graphics card, and a wheelbase dropout no longer flips the PC. - Faster start into the rig: the setup assistant ends with hotkeys, start with Windows and a first test switch.
- Games from more launchers: iRacing, EA app and Xbox games next to Steam and Epic.
- Help that helps: error messages say what to do, and "Save support package" fills in a bug report for you.
Added
- Any button on a wheel, button box, game pad or joystick keeps a switch while the countdown runs. Switches from a USB
rule get at least 30 seconds to confirm, so you can get to the seat first. - Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D turns every display on, from anywhere, for a screen that stays dark.
- The game picker finds iRacing, EA app games, Xbox app games and a few standalone sims, and names the source of each.
- An app in a profile or game can wait for the previous one's window instead of a fixed delay.
- The setup assistant saves the microphone with each profile, ends with hotkeys (Ctrl+Alt+F1/F2 when free), start with
Windows and "Try it" as its last step. The Triggers tab warns when hotkeys or USB rules can't work because RigShift
doesn't start with Windows. - Help → Save support package: a ZIP with diagnostics, the last three logs, settings, profiles and games, without
your Windows user name, and the bug report form opens with the version filled in. The diagnostics now include the
graphics driver and the settings. - Renaming a profile or game moves its desktop shortcut along. A link, key or shortcut that points to nothing says so
in the tray. - Keyboard shortcuts show in tooltips and on the Help page.
Changed
- A missing display is shown the same way on the overview, the profile list and the tray, with the next step. A
display that is off no longer blocks "Switch": RigShift asks for it and waits. - Error messages say what to do instead of what went wrong inside .NET. One word per thing in both languages,
placeholders in empty fields, higher contrast for field borders and hints. - Each day's log starts with the RigShift version, Windows version and graphics driver; the Windows user name is
replaced everywhere. - Smaller download (about 80 MB instead of 93 MB). Uninstalling removes the desktop shortcuts RigShift created.
- Faster: the tray icon appears before the profiles page is built, file and USB checks run in the background, a switch
reports its result before tidying up.
Fixed
- NVIDIA Surround keeps its bezel correction and rotation, RigShift waits for the displays after a Surround change,
and a profile without a Surround setting turns Surround off once another profile turns it on. - The sound device of a monitor that was just turned on is waited for; a USB sound device on another port is found by
its name. - Identical monitors are told apart after a graphics card change, monitors on new ports are carried over into every
profile, and RigShift says when two monitors can't be told apart. - Profiles with the same layout but different refresh rate or HDR are told apart.
- A short USB dropout no longer starts a rule again. USB rules wait while the PC is locked.
- A display driver call that never returns ends the switch with a hint instead of blocking RigShift.
- A switch whose countdown window never answers is taken back; the crash record keeps the audio.
- A game starts only after its profile's apps; a game started through a launcher that stays open is followed.
- Quitting or updating while a game runs asks first. A failed update download is tried again after 1, 5 and 30 minutes.
- Unsaved edits are never replaced when profiles or games change on disk; USB rules are merged, not overwritten.
- A language change updates every open list at once.
Security
- Every release is installed over the previous version, started and checked in CI before it is published, and its
page links a VirusTotal scan of the setup and the portable ZIP.
RigShift 3.6.0
Added
- Restore the desktop icons on their own: "Restore" next to "Save positions" in the profile, the same entry in
the profile's "…" menu, andRigShift.exe icons <name>. Until now the saved positions only came back as part of a
switch – no help when Windows reshuffles the icons while the profile is already active. - Windows' "Text size" setting is followed (Settings → Accessibility): every RigShift window grows by that factor,
as far as the screen allows. - A backup includes the games, and restoring first shows what the backup brings along – programs it starts, USB
rules, hotkeys – with a warning for a program on a network share, a program without a full path and a rule that
switches without asking. - An administrator can switch the update check off by policy
(HKLM\Software\Policies\RigShift\DisableUpdateCheck); seedocs/deployment.md. - Setting "Detailed log" for a problem report. The normal log is quieter and carries no device paths.
- Releases carry an SBOM,
SHA256SUMSand a build provenance attestation. New: third-party notices, a privacy
statement and a deployment guide (silent install, uninstall, offline use).
Changed
- Apps in a profile or game start by full path only; a bare name like
tool.exeis no longer started (stopping
by name still works). The app row says "Not found" or "No full path" in words instead of only turning red. - The USB device picker no longer offers what is built into the PC (Bluetooth adapters, mainboard lighting).
Existing rules are untouched. - Help page: the actions stand right below their text, the two folder links stay together.
- "Exit" asks when there are unsaved changes.
Fixed
- A game session waits for the game to show up before it waits for its end, follows what a launcher stub leaves
behind, and no longer stays "running" when it could not be started. - Whatever goes wrong before a switch is confirmed ends in the rollback; a rollback gives each audio role back to the
device that held it and brings duplicated displays back as duplicates. - A frozen display driver or a hanging Explorer ends the switch with an error instead of freezing RigShift.
- Profiles, games and settings reach the disk completely before they replace the old file. A settings file that
cannot be read is kept aside and you are told; a profile or game with broken content is reported instead of
silently dropped. - Restoring a backup no longer risks the existing profiles when it fails half way.
- One check for hotkey conflicts between profiles, games and "previous profile"; a hotkey Windows refuses is reported
whenever it happens, not only at start. - A failed update check is tried again after 1, 5 and 30 minutes and after waking from standby; an update that was
reported already is not reported again with every check. - Profiles and games pages: "Save" or "Discard" in the unsaved-changes question opens the entry that was clicked, and
a new entry is no longer listed twice after saving. - A crash leaves a line in the log; an error that keeps coming back asks for a restart instead of flooding the screen.
- Field of view: a label that wraps no longer pushes its field below its neighbour.
- A display number in the hundreds (remote session) fits its badge.
- The state dot in the folded navigation explains itself in its tooltip and to screen readers.
- The component gallery (a developer aid) no longer ships in release builds.
Security
- The command pipe cannot be squatted by another process, and the command line checks whose pipe it talks to.
rigshift://links cannot read response files (@file), and aplaylink makes the profile switch ask first.nvapi64.dllloads from System32 only; files from outside (backups, imports) are read with a size limit.- Repository:
mainand release tags are protected, dependencies are locked and watched by Dependabot, CodeQL is on,
builds carry embedded symbols with SourceLink.
RigShift 3.5.1
Changed
- A game's desktop shortcut now shows the game's own icon in front of a small RigShift card in the top right corner,
instead of the plain RigShift icon: you see at a glance which game it starts and that it goes through RigShift.
RigShift 3.5.0
Added
- Switch and play from the overview: every profile is a tile with its arrangement and a "Switch" button (the
active one offers "Apply again"), every game a row with "Play". The display list reads as a status list; a
display's name becomes editable on hover. - Help page with actual help: version and update state on top, then first steps with the assistant, your own
hotkeys and therigshift://commands with a copy button, backup, and reporting a problem. - Field of view picture with substance: screens as bars with joints and a curve, a head with its line of sight,
the cone as light from the eye, the angle as one arc, distance and width as dimensions on a 10 cm floor grid, and
a small side view for the vertical angle when there is room. The results are three large figures; the sim list
has a search, pins your own games to the top and answers "Copied" in the row. - Empty profile and game pages show a proper start: the displays Windows shows right now with "Save as profile",
or "Find installed games". - The navigation folds to its symbols below 1200 px (or with the button on top) and shows the active profile,
paused USB rules and a dot on Help when an update is waiting. The chosen page's symbol is filled. - A game's Windows tab lists the captured windows.
Changed
- App and game pickers and the window capture use the app's own look: title in the window, 48 px rows with the
programs' icons, a footer with the actions. Window capture lists size instead of raw coordinates. - The confirmation after a switch shows Enter and Esc as keys; the first page of the assistant shows its three
steps as cards. - Tooltips appear sooner and match the app; focus rings only appear when you move with the keyboard.
- Resolutions read "3840 × 2160 · 165 Hz" everywhere; USB device IDs moved into a tooltip.
- Paused USB rules show in amber in the tray popup, as in the window.
RigShift 3.4.0
Changed
- Profile and game tabs use the settings cards: every option is a card with its title and a short explanation
on the left and the control on the right. Audio has one card each for playback, recording and calls with the
volume as a switch and slider; Triggers has three cards for USB devices, hotkey, and shortcut and command;
Behavior, Windows and End use switches instead of loose checkboxes. - The list columns have a title with a compact "New" button.
- The profile head shows its state once: no more chips next to the status line, no second picture. An active
profile offers "Apply again" instead of the accent "Switch"; "Test" is now "Check". - A blocked profile says "3 displays missing" in the head and names them in a bar below; the list just says
"Blocked". - A pencil shows that profile and game names can be edited.
- Game tab "Profile": the choices are cards side by side with the arrangement picture and a check mark.
- USB device chips show a plug with a status dot; "+ Device" is a dashed chip of the same height.
- New volume slider: a thicker rail filled in the accent colour and a thumb that grows on hover.
- The display toolbar sits above the arrangement picture, the hint below the displays.
RigShift 3.3.1
Fixed
- App and tool cards keep the program name and path at the smallest window width: the program and its buttons
sit on top, action, timing, delay and arguments below with labels. "Change…" is a real button now. - The display card has a fixed layout: model and resolution with the delete button on top, name, refresh rate and
HDR below, "Main display" and "Optional" in the same row while it fits. - The rule fields "When disconnected" and the wait time line up in German too.
- Settings switch to one column below about 1150 px instead of pushing the controls under their text.
- Content width: pages without a list are centred at up to 1200 px, profile and game details stay left-aligned at
up to 960 px.
RigShift 3.3.0
Changed
- Displays look like displays: every arrangement picture draws bezel, screen and stand, a round number badge
like the Windows display settings and a star for the main display. Selected, hovered, optional and missing
displays are told apart at a glance, and switching profiles lets the displays glide into their new places. - New tray flyout: up to four profiles as tiles with their picture, a header with "Open" and the rule pause,
games with their icon and a play button on hover; digits 1–9 switch. It rises from the taskbar. - Motion throughout the app: hover and pressed fades, a selection pill that grows in, a sliding tab underline,
pages and tab content fade in, the save bar slides up, drop-down chevrons turn. All of it follows the Windows
setting "Animation effects". - One clean typeface: values such as resolutions, hotkeys and paths no longer use a monospaced font; small
text renders crisper, page titles and section headings are larger. - Controls reworked: a radio button with a real dot, a segmented control with a sliding pill, softer toggles,
pill-shaped chips, rounded list rows, drop-downs and menus with a shadow, menus with icons that stay inside the
window, disabled buttons that no longer look clickable, a filled red delete button in dialogs.
