I wanted to import English Heritage site list I've downloaded into QMapShack but it requires a specific SQLite format. These are the downloads available at the EH website and I wondered if there's a way to convert any of these into a format QMapShack can understand: Link to the map and data site here: https://opendata-historicengland.hub.arcgis.com/datasets/historicengland::national-heritage-list-for-england-nhle/explore I'm on Arch Linux and comfortable with the terminal but still getting familiar with mapping in general. |

So far QMapShack only supports Mapsforge POI format version 2. This is a Sqlite database file. Open and easy to investigate. That said it should be possible to convert any other database format into that. If it's open and kind of documented. I would recommend to ask AI to do it (if you have a plan/subscription) or use one of the free AI chats to create a python script. |

Yes. You can convert POIs to QMapShack-supported formats using tools like: GPSBabel → convert many formats (CSV, GPX, KML, WPT, etc.) to GPX (recommended). QMapShack works best with GPX files (.gpx) for waypoints, tracks, and routes. |

There is yet another approach to use such type of data relatively easily: MapServer. MapServer as a proxy can handle many input formats like geojson, shapefile, geopackage, ... and transform this data into WMS or other output formats. WMS can be used as input for QMapShack. |

I downloaded some data of the above mentioned source from https://opendata-historicengland.hub.arcgis.com/datasets/historicengland::national-heritage-list-for-england-nhle/explore?layer=0&location=53.296899%2C-1.882220%2C14.00 in geojson format and tried MapServer on Windows with QMS. Here is a snapshot (blue circles & red labels) of the QMS map:

Thanks guys, much appreciated! Lots to try here but I've settled for the MapServer option as it seems to handle it best. Never would have expected that tbh! I started mapping stuff a few weeks ago never expecting it all to be so complicated! |
