First public beta of AI4DOS: a native 16-bit DOS chat client for 8086/8088-class PCs, connecting to modern AI provider APIs through a self-hosted Python gateway.

The client includes English and German interfaces, CP437/CP850 support, scrollback, saved chats, reconnect and session resume. The gateway supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, NVIDIA, Mistral, OpenRouter and OpenAI-compatible APIs.

Downloads

Five runtime packages are provided. Download AI4DOS-DOS.zip for your DOS PC and choose one gateway package for the modern computer: AI4DOS-Server-Windows.zip, AI4DOS-Server-macOS.zip, AI4DOS-Server-Linux.zip or AI4DOS-Server-Docker.zip. Native gateways require Python 3.9 or newer and the documented dependency setup; Docker does not require host Python.

AI4DOS-DOS-Source-0.1.0-beta.1.zip is the separate DOS Corresponding Source asset for the distributed DOS executable; it is not a runtime download.

This is a beta prerelease. Hardware and provider compatibility can vary; feedback is welcome. See the English Quick Start or German Quick Start for installation and configuration. Provider API credentials stay on the gateway; chat traffic between DOS and the gateway is unencrypted.
