Minecraft Chinese with Pinyin (v1.2.1)

Welcome to the v1.2.1 release of the Minecraft Chinese Pinyin Resource Pack.

This release introduces persistent configuration via a .config file, named Minecraft color support for Pinyin annotations, and preserves the full suite of Java and Bedrock Edition packs, regional phonetics, and learning modes introduced in v1.2.0.

What's New in v1.2.1

1. Configuration File Support (.config)

  • Persistent Defaults: You can now define your preferred Pinyin annotation color, phonetic style, and study modes in a project .config file instead of passing CLI arguments on every generator run.
  • Format Flexibility: Accepts standard INI/key-value pairs (with # and ; comments) as well as JSON formatting.
  • Precedence Rules: CLI options (--pinyin-color, --no-color, --pinyin-style, --recall) cleanly take priority over .config settings.

2. Named Minecraft Colors

  • Pinyin annotation colors can now be specified using intuitive color names both in .config and via the --pinyin-color CLI flag:
    • gold (§6), yellow (§e), gray (§7), aqua (§b), green (§a), red (§c), light_purple (§d), white (§f), and more.
    • Disabling color annotations is supported with none, off, or false.

Features from v1.2.0

  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition Export (.mcpack): Complete cross-platform Bedrock resource pack with official vanilla string translations and 100% English slash command retention.
  • Regional Phonetics & Custom In-Game Languages:
    • 中文 (注音) (zh_zy) with character-spaced Bopomofo annotations.
    • 廣東話 (粵拼) (zh_yue) with offline LSHK Jyutping dictionary.
  • Muted Pinyin Styling (§7 Gray): Pronunciation annotations appear in clean subtle gray §7(...)§r so Chinese characters remain visually distinct and dominant.
  • Learning Modes & Multi-Variant Builder: Tone Numbers mode (--pinyin-style numbers), Character Recall mode (--recall), and multi-pack generation (--all-variants).
  • 1.21.4 Pale Garden Support: Phonetic polyphone overrides for Creaking (嘎枝), Creaking Heart (嘎枝之心), Pale Garden (苍白之园), Eyeblossom (眼眸花), and Breeze (旋风人).

Minecraft Chinese with Pinyin (v1.2.0)

Welcome to the v1.2.0 major release of the Minecraft Chinese Pinyin Resource Pack.

This release brings support for Minecraft Bedrock Edition (.mcpack), regional phonetic guides (Zhuyin/Bopomofo and Cantonese Jyutping), Muted Pinyin Styling, Tone Numbers, Character Recall Mode, and modern 1.21.4 Pale Garden terminology.

What's New in v1.2.0

1. Minecraft Bedrock Edition Export (.mcpack)

  • Cross-Platform Compatibility: Full support for Minecraft Bedrock Edition across Windows, iOS, iPadOS, Android, and consoles.
  • One-Click Installation: Packaged as a standard .mcpack file (Minecraft-Chinese-Pinyin-v1.2.0.mcpack) that can be opened or double-clicked to import directly into Minecraft Bedrock.
  • Official Bedrock Vanilla Strings: Fetches and transforms official .lang files (texts/zh_CN.lang, texts/zh_TW.lang, texts/en_US.lang) directly from Mojang's bedrock-samples repository.
  • 100% English Commands Preserved: All Bedrock commands (commands.*, argument.*) remain in native English.
  • Pack Metadata: Includes Bedrock format version 2 manifest.json with deterministic UUIDs and pack_icon.png.

2. Regional Phonetics & Custom In-Game Languages

  • Taiwan Zhuyin / Bopomofo (zh_zy):
    • Added dedicated selectable language: 中文 (注音) / Chinese with Zhuyin (zh_zy).
    • Full character-spaced Bopomofo annotations (e.g. 鑽石劍 §7(ㄗㄨㄢ ㄕˊ ㄐㄧㄢˋ)§r).
  • Hong Kong Cantonese Jyutping (zh_yue):
    • Added dedicated selectable language: 廣東話 (粵拼) / Cantonese with Jyutping (zh_yue).
    • Offline phonetic dictionary (data/cantonese_dict.json) covering 2,050+ unique CJK characters with LSHK standard Jyutping (e.g. 鑽石劍 §7(zyun3 sek6 gim3)§r).

3. Muted Pinyin Styling (§7 Gray)

  • Pronunciation annotations now use Minecraft's muted gray formatting code §7(...)§r by default.
  • Chinese characters remain visually distinct and dominant while phonetic guides provide readable, unintrusive assistance.
  • Configurable via CLI: --pinyin-color <code|none> and --no-color.

4. Learning Modes & Multi-Variant Builder

  • Tone Numbers Mode (--pinyin-style numbers): Generates Pinyin with numeric tone annotations (e.g. 钻石剑 §7(Zuan4shi2 Jian4)§r).
  • Character Recall Mode (--recall): Inverts display order to display Pinyin first with Hanzi in secondary parentheses (e.g. Zuànshí Jiàn §7(钻石剑)§r), perfect for active recall study.
  • Multi-Variant Builder (--all-variants): Generates Standard, Numbers, Recall (.zip), and Bedrock (.mcpack) packages in a single run.

5. 1.21.4 Pale Garden & Modern Terminology Overrides

  • Expanded data/pinyin_overrides.json to cover recent drops and polyphones:
    • 嘎枝 (Creaking) -> Gāzhī
    • 嘎枝之心 (Creaking Heart) -> Gāzhī Zhīxīn
    • 苍白之园 (Pale Garden) -> Cāngbái Zhīyuán
    • 眼眸花 (Eyeblossom) -> Yǎnmóu Huā
    • 旋风人 (Breeze) -> Xuánfēngrén
    • 刷怪蛋 (Spawn Egg) -> Shuāguàidàn

Minecraft Chinese with Pinyin (v1.1.0)

Welcome to the v1.1.0 release of the Minecraft Chinese Pinyin Resource Pack.

This release brings major enhancements to linguistic coverage, Minecraft version compatibility, command filtering accuracy, and developer tooling.

What's New in v1.1.0

1. Dedicated In-Game Custom Language (zh_py)

  • Registered a new custom language entry in pack.mcmeta: 中文 (拼音) / Chinese with Pinyin (zh_py).
  • Players can now choose Chinese with Pinyin directly from Minecraft's Options -> Language... menu without needing to alter native English (en_us).
  • The en_us.json fallback continues to be included and is now cleanly labeled as English (US (Chinese Pinyin Fallback)) to prevent language menu confusion.

2. Broad Multi-Version Compatibility

  • Added supported_formats (min_inclusive: 32, max_inclusive: 97+) in pack.mcmeta.
  • Eliminates the red "Incompatible pack! Made for an older/newer version" warning across Minecraft 1.20.5 through 1.21.4+ and future releases.

3. Comprehensive CJK Unicode Coverage

  • Expanded the tokenizer regex from standard BMP characters (\u4e00-\u9fff) to include CJK Extension A (\u3400-\u4dbf), compatibility ideographs, and supplementary plane ideographs (Extension B+).
  • Corrected previously unannotated characters across Classical Chinese (lzh) and Hong Kong (zh_hk), including cobblestone (䃮 (Tán)), acacia (㭜 (Yuè)), and creaking (䦪 (Kù)).
  • Classical Chinese (lzh) now utilizes monosyllabic tokenization for natural morpheme transliteration.

4. Custom Phonetic Overrides (data/pinyin_overrides.json)

  • Introduced a structured domain dictionary overriding polyphonic characters (多音字) and niche Minecraft vocabulary.
  • Examples:
    • 重锤 (Mace) -> Zhòngchuí
    • 藏宝图 (Treasure Map) -> Cángbǎotú
    • 附魔 (Enchantment) -> Fùmó
    • 潜影贝 (Shulker) -> Qiányǐngbèi
    • 潜行 (Sneak) -> Qiánxíng
    • 重生 (Respawn) -> Chóngshēng

5. 100% Command & Parser English Preservation

  • Expanded command key filtering to cover arguments., parsing., snbt.parser., clear.failed., slot., predicate.unknown, and item_modifier.unknown.
  • Fixed 39 command feedback strings that previously remained in Chinese due to incomplete client JAR extraction. 100% of command keys are now native English.

6. Generator Pipeline & Developer Tooling

  • Asset Caching: Added local disk caching under .cache/ for Mojang manifests and assets, reducing generator execution time to ~2 seconds on cached runs.
  • CLI Arguments: Added CLI flags for --version, --output-dir, --no-zip, --no-cache, --cache-dir, --overrides, and --langs.
  • Automated QA: Added tests/test_pack.py with 9 automated unit tests verifying regex coverage, overrides, command filtering, and JSON integrity.
  • Continuous Integration: Added .github/workflows/ci.yml running tests on push and pull requests across Python 3.9 through 3.13.
