On Windows, compartment init starts the tray app in the session you are looking at, and says what actually happened. The scheduled task keeps the job it is good at: the next sign-in, and putting the panel back if it stops. Windows can also see a running panel now, so nothing waits on a check that cannot succeed.

compartment tray and compartment panel are the running app. Start one from a console or a script and that process is the panel until it is stopped.

macOS is unchanged from 4.4.
