Monolith 0.1.14 — 0BSD and addon compatibility

  • Fixed server startup with Redraw installed: shared native database helpers now preserve query aliases without registering duplicate tables.
  • Fixed fresh-install migrations when retired Notes tables are absent.
  • First-party Monolith code is now licensed under Zero-Clause BSD (0BSD), including commercial use, modification and redistribution. Third-party dependencies retain their notices and licenses; earlier releases retain their original terms.
  • Replaced the remaining inherited core implementations, shared controls, authentication services, tooling and translations.
  • Retired inherited addon packages. Atlas, Automations, Agents, Redraw, Gym and Tech Lab remain available. Calendar, Journal, Projects and Rooms are native workspace features.
  • Published new patch versions of all six custom addons for this host release. Update installed addons from Addons and Widgets after upgrading the server.
  • Improved account creation, connection recovery, file ownership checks, interrupted downloads and addon asset loading.
  • Updated the public website, installation guides and license information.

Updating

Windows and macOS clients download authenticated updates automatically, then restart after two idle minutes in the background with edits saved. Server connection settings, saved sessions and drafts are kept outside application files. The previous version remains available for runtime rollback.

Server administrators: this release changes the schema fingerprint. Back up the database, uploaded files and addon state, apply the release's migration in a maintenance window, then establish the new updater baseline. Automatic installation will pause for this planned migration. Do not override that check. Runtime rollback does not reverse schema changes. Retired addon data is not automatically deleted.

The Windows installer is unsigned. The macOS application has an ad-hoc signature and is not notarized. macOS may request approval to use the saved Monolith Keychain item after an update. Update manifests and addon catalogs remain signed with the existing release keys.

Monolith 0.1.14 enables automatic updates for Windows, macOS and the hosted Linux server. Update notifications, download progress and rollback are available in Settings → Updates. Downloads and installation are enabled by default; desktop restarts wait for two background idle minutes and clean drafts. Servers install during their configured maintenance window.

Installers remain unsigned (macOS uses an ad-hoc signature without notarization). Update manifests and archives are authenticated with the pinned Monolith release key. Existing v0.1.3 and preview clients need this installer once because those builds omitted that key. Server administrators must install the external supervisor; see installation and updates.

Add-on reliability and session recovery

  • Windows and macOS add-ons now use the host's authentication, native connection, widget and query providers. This fixes the “useAuthContext must be used within an AuthProvider” failure.
  • Rebuilt every downloadable add-on and widget with independent patch versions. Add-on bundles no longer carry competing copies of host libraries.
  • Fixed shop installation of add-ons that include license notices. Every release package now passes the installer's validation before it can be published.
  • Fixed URL-state adapter conflicts and missing desktop system translations.
  • Provided the shared static renderer required by Redraw and add-on exports.
  • Fixed hosted web session renewal through /api/auth. New refresh cookies work through both the gateway and the direct API, and obsolete cookie paths are cleared when a session is issued.
  • Isolated session recovery and public-key request limits from expired background polling. Encryption failures now show an error and Retry instead of an endless loading screen.
  • Added a production-build browser regression test covering a separately built add-on, sign-in context, authenticated native transport, widget state, translations and URL filters.

Updating

Clients on 0.1.11 can download this release automatically and restart after two minutes in the background with edits saved. Existing update preferences, OptiPlex connections and local drafts are retained. The previous application version remains available for rollback.

Update installed add-ons from Addons and Widgets to receive their rebuilt packages. Existing data stays outside replaceable application files. A web session created before this release may need one sign-in to receive the corrected refresh cookie.

The Windows installer remains unsigned. The macOS app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Update manifests, add-on catalogs and download checksums remain verified.

Monolith 0.1.12 enables automatic updates for Windows, macOS and the hosted Linux server. Update notifications, download progress and rollback are available in Settings → Updates. Desktop update and Windows icon fixes

  • Automatic installation now checks whether the native app window is in the background, including minimized Windows windows. It waits for two minutes of inactivity and saved edits, and checks again before restarting.
  • Returning to the app or a failure to read the native window state postpones installation.
  • Windows now loads the Monolith icon for both the small window icon and the large taskbar icon.
  • Existing server connections, saved sessions, workspace data and update preferences are preserved.

Upgrading

Windows 0.1.9 and 0.1.10 can download this release automatically, but their restart bug can prevent automatic installation. Use Settings → Updates → Restart and install once to receive the correction. Later updates use the corrected background detection.

The Windows installer is unsigned. The macOS app uses an ad-hoc signature and is not notarized; macOS may request permission to use the saved Monolith Keychain item after installation. Update packages remain authenticated by signed release metadata and verified checksums.

The hosted server uses the existing automatic update service. This release does not introduce a database schema change.

Verification notes

  • Windows clients download and verify this update automatically, but testing from 0.1.9 found that the background restart can stall. Use Settings → Updates → Restart and install to finish this upgrade. A correction is being prepared for a subsequent release.
  • The small Windows window icon is present; the large taskbar icon still needs a correction.
  • The Mac mini completed the automatic upgrade from 0.1.9, preserved its server profile and retained 0.1.9 for rollback. macOS requested Keychain approval before restoring the saved session because these builds use ad-hoc signatures.

Projects, Actions and Calendar

  • Projects now has a gallery with cover images, visible properties, hover details and progress calculated from linked actions.
  • Table Type distinguishes projects, actions, events, notes and general databases. Actions link to individual projects, with the same relationship visible from either side.
  • Actions includes Inbox, Today, Agenda, To do and Completed views, plus focus widgets. Pomodoro sessions can select and complete actual workspace tasks.
  • Calendar uses a wider layout, a mini-month and calendar source rail, compact controls and floating event editors. Failed saves preserve the draft for retry.
  • Sidebar items support dragging from the whole row, including in the Windows app. Dropdowns and scheduling controls follow the shared Monolith UI.
  • The Windows app now sets its Monolith window icon explicitly and includes the PNG icon in the native bundle.

This release preserves existing records and relationships. Self-hosted upgrades should retain a database backup and review add-on schema changes before activation.

Monolith 0.1.10 enables automatic updates for Windows, macOS and the hosted Linux server. Update notifications, download progress and rollback are available in Settings → Updates. Downloads and installation are enabled by default; desktop restarts wait for two background idle minutes and clean drafts. Servers install during their configured maintenance window.

Monolith 0.1.9

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 19:19

Monolith 0.1.9 refines calendar creation and makes desktop update recovery more reliable.

  • Create calendar events in an anchored popover, with date and duration controls, draft protection, and an option to open the event as a full page.
  • Updated buttons, dropdowns, sign-in fields and the sidebar slider to match Monolith's interface.
  • Download progress refreshes promptly, including during short downloads.
  • Fixed Windows rollback when the same installation is exposed through redirected filesystem paths.

Automatic downloads and installation remain enabled by default. Desktop installation waits for two minutes of background inactivity and clean drafts. The hosted server uses its configured maintenance window, with health checks and rollback.

Windows installers remain unsigned. macOS apps use an ad-hoc signature and are not notarized. Automatic-update archives are still authenticated with Monolith's pinned release key.

Download the Windows x64 installer, universal macOS DMG, or Linux x64/ARM64 server image below. The release also includes the server setup kit, CLI/MCP package, and 14 addon and widget packages.

Servers already on 0.1.8 need no new database migration. Servers upgrading from earlier versions must first follow the calendar migration instructions in docs/CALENDAR.md.

Validation includes native Windows and Apple Silicon macOS update/recovery checks, Chromium and WebKit calendar acceptance checks, and the release pipeline's platform builds, updater tests, and server installation/rollback rehearsals.

Monolith 0.1.8

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 16:50

Monolith 0.1.8 upgrades Calendar, recurring work and shared scheduling.

  • Drag events in Week and Day agenda, and resize their duration with the bottom handle.
  • Open events as full pages and open database Date properties in Calendar. Calendar edits update the original records.
  • Repeat tasks and events daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, with time zones, end rules and individual occurrence changes.
  • Invite workspace members, track their responses, and receive invitations, changes and reminders in the notification inbox.
  • Prepare opt-in email delivery with a durable outbox and retries. Email requires a configured provider; see calendar setup.

Windows and macOS 0.1.7 clients discover and download this release automatically. Installation waits until the app is in the background, idle for two minutes, and drafts are saved. Settings → Updates shows notifications, download progress and recovery controls. Clients from 0.1.3 or earlier preview builds need a current installer once.

The Windows installer remains unsigned. The universal macOS app is ad-hoc signed and unnotarized. The automatic update manifest remains authenticated with the existing pinned Monolith key.

Server migration: This release adds two calendar tables. Server administrators must back up, apply and verify the schema migration, then approve the matching release schemas and update the supervisor baseline. The updater blocks unattended installation across this schema change. Future compatible updates follow the configured automatic maintenance window. Application rollback cannot reverse a database migration. See deployment and updates.

Downloads include Windows and universal macOS installers, Linux amd64/arm64 server packages, the server installation kit, CLI/MCP tools, and the matching add-on catalog. SHA256SUMS and release-downloads.json describe the complete inventory.

This is an unsigned release with manual installation. The Windows installer is unsigned. The macOS application uses an ad-hoc signature and is not notarized. Operating systems may block these downloads. Automatic application updates are disabled in this release. The first signed client will require a manual installation; later signed releases can update automatically. The signed publishing workflow retains its certificate and notarization checks. Desktop clients require a separately hosted Monolith server.

Back up existing data before installing. Linux image archives larger than GitHub's per-file limit are split into numbered parts; download every part for your architecture. See the server kit instructions for loading them.
