ZestDrop v0.1.0

This release adds an English interface, lets you pause, cancel or hide each conversion, runs two jobs at once, and fixes several reliability problems.

Earlier releases were renumbered: the former v0.1.0 is now v0.0.1 and the former v0.1.1 is now v0.0.2.

What's new

  • English interface. Choose English or Simplified Chinese from the tray menu (Language / 语言). The first launch follows your Windows display language, and the choice is saved. Error messages from the conversion engine follow the same language.
  • Pause, cancel and hide each job. Every background job gets its own progress card:
    • Pause / Resume freezes the whole job, including FFmpeg and other helper programs, and stops the elapsed-time clock. Resume continues exactly where it stopped.
    • Cancel stops the job and removes its unfinished files. Paused jobs can be cancelled directly.
    • Hide tucks the card away while the job keeps running. A tray notification reports when a hidden job finishes.
  • Several jobs at once. Two jobs run in parallel; further jobs wait their turn and are shown as waiting. Pausing a job lets the next one start. Cards are listed top to bottom in the order they started. With two or more jobs, a header shows the counts and can Collapse the cards into a pile, Expand them again, or Hide all. The tray menu can show progress, pause or resume all jobs, and cancel all jobs.
  • No more 30-minute limit. Long video encodes are no longer stopped after 30 minutes; cancel them when you want instead.

Fixes

  • Conversions could occasionally fail with "处理引擎未正常完成" (the engine did not finish properly), or skip the rest of a batch, even though the files had converted. This happened when the progress display read the progress file at the moment it was being updated.
  • Cancelling a job, or quitting during one, no longer leaves half-written .zestdrop-… files next to your originals. Cancelling one job never touches another job's files in the same folder.
  • F8 and F9 are no longer taken from other applications. They open the menu only while you are dragging files, so Excel recalculation and debugger shortcuts work normally again.
  • Plain .gz files and RAR archives now get the same size and file-count limits as ZIP and TAR when extracting.
  • Very large PDF pages are rendered at a reduced resolution instead of running out of memory.
  • Logs and temporary previews moved to %LOCALAPPDATA%\ZestDrop\logs. The log is rotated at 4 MB, no longer records the full paths of your files, and an unwritable application folder can no longer stop the app from starting.

Download and upgrade

Download ZestDrop-v0.1.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the entire archive, and run ZestDrop.exe from the ZestDrop folder. Keep its backend, runtime, and DLLs together. The bundle includes .NET, Python, FFmpeg, 7-Zip, and the required Python libraries.

Before upgrading, finish or cancel current jobs and quit the old application from its tray menu. Extract this version into a fresh directory and launch it. A SHA-256 checksum is attached.

Requirements and validation

  • Windows x64. Interface in English or Simplified Chinese.
  • Office layout exports require the corresponding desktop Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, or Excel application.
  • The executable is unsigned. There is no installer, auto-update, or startup registration.
  • Automated checks cover the backend conversions, tool parameters, the progress stack, pausing a real FFmpeg encode and resuming it to a valid file, cleanup after cancelling, and that every interface string has an English translation. Office conversions were not re-tested for this release, and multi-monitor and display-scaling setups still need broader testing.
  • Existing PDF/OCR and multi-frame image limitations continue to apply; see the usage guide.
