Release list
Gitaur v0.4.0-beta.5
Fixes repeated fatal: bad object errors when switching repositories. The history view now uses the loaded repository snapshot, preventing commit requests from the repository just closed. Includes desktop regression coverage for switching in both directions.
This is a preview prerelease. Windows binaries are unsigned. Git must be installed separately; Windows uses the shared WebView2 runtime.
Downloads include the Windows portable executable and installer, Linux AppImage and Debian package, checksums, license, and dependency/runtime notices.
Gitaur v0.4.0-beta.4
Gitaur 0.4.0-beta.4 adds the app version and a GitHub repository button to the desktop header, and updates the development toolchain.
Changes
- Display the installed version beside the app name in both main and commit windows.
- Add a GitHub icon button that opens this repository in the default browser, with keyboard activation and launch-error notifications.
- Upgrade the development and CI baseline to Node 26, with matching Node types.
- Adopt TypeScript 7 and Vite 8, retaining compatible source-convention checks.
- Refresh dependency and GitHub icon license notices.
Downloads
Windows x64: use Gitaur.exe for the portable executable or Gitaur_0.4.0-beta.4_x64-setup.exe for the installer.
Linux x64: choose the AppImage or Debian package. Native X11 and Wayland smoke tests run in CI; interactive GNOME/KDE desktop validation remains pending.
Preview software. Windows binaries are unsigned. Git must be installed separately; Gitaur uses your existing Git authentication and configuration. Verify the four binary downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt. Keep the included license and third-party notices when redistributing.
Validation
Publication requires successful Windows and Linux builds, Windows desktop workflows, Linux X11 and Wayland smoke tests, renderer and native Git tests, formatting, conventions, Clippy, dependency audits, and a full-history secret scan. The header controls are checked for keyboard interaction, launch errors, and narrow-window layout.
The existing Rust dependency warnings for proc-macro-error and the Linux GTK stack's glib::VariantStrIter remain documented in the publication audit.
Gitaur v0.4.0-beta.3
Gitaur is the new name for Branchlight. This preview introduces the gold guitar-pick logo with its Git branch cutout throughout the desktop app, icons, and documentation.
Changes
- Renamed application windows, executables, installers, and project packages to Gitaur.
- Added the approved logo to the title bars and welcome screen, with scalable SVG artwork and regenerated desktop icons.
- Preserved the existing application identifier and storage keys so saved preferences, layouts, recent repositories, and merge drafts remain available.
- Added
GITAUR_GIT,GITAUR_REPO,GITAUR_USER_DATA, andGITAUR_EDITOR_EXE. The correspondingBRANCHLIGHT_variables remain supported as fallbacks. - Renamed the repository to MaximBalaganskiy/gitaur and refreshed documentation and screenshots.

Validation
The release candidate is checked by the Windows desktop suite, Linux X11 and native Wayland smoke tests, renderer and native Git tests, formatting, conventions, Clippy, dependency audits, and a full-history secret scan. Release publication is gated on successful Windows, Linux, and security jobs.
The existing Rust dependency warnings for proc-macro-error and the Linux GTK stack's glib::VariantStrIter remain documented in the publication audit. This branding release does not change those dependencies.
