Keyd 0.1.1

Keyd now says whether it's actually on, has a What's New like Folio's, and ships beside Keyd Dev, a build for testers.

What's new

• Knows whether it's on: Settings opens with Keyd's version and whether it's turned on and chosen as your keyboard, with the one button that fixes whichever step is missing.
• What's New and About: the version, these notes, and a way to report a problem. Reporting opens GitHub in your browser; Keyd itself still has no internet access.
• Keyd Dev: a separate build for testers, with a Developer page: detailed logging that never records what you type, recent errors and a report to share. Expect more bugs than Keyd.
• The gear beside Keyd in Android's keyboard list opens Settings instead of the setup screen.

Which one to get

• Keyd-0.1.1.apk: the keyboard. Get this one.
• Keyd-Dev-0.1.1.apk: Keyd Dev (com.mccal.keyd.dev), with the orange icon. It installs beside Keyd and is for testing, so expect more bugs.

Folio supporters get both from the Market, in Keyd's source. Like Keyd, Keyd Dev asks for no permissions at all.

Keyd 0.1.0

The first release of Keyd, the keyboard for Folio. It's a separate app because Android requires a keyboard to be its own input method, so the launcher can't contain one.

What's in it

• Typing: a QWERTY that follows the field it's editing, shift with caps lock, symbols, an optional number row, and accents on a long press with the alternate printed on the key.
• Words: suggestions, a spell check, and autocorrect for clear typos only. It never changes a real word, and one backspace always undoes it. Words it doesn't know are learned on the phone, never from a password field.
• Six languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese, each with its own keys, accents and word list.
• Made for the fold: on a book fold the keyboard splits around the crease, so no key sits on the hinge.
• Clipboard history: never from a password field, and forgotten after an hour unless you pin it.
• Shortcuts, emoji and gestures: omw for "on my way" and your own, emoji in your phone's font, flick a key for what's printed on it, swipe the space bar to move the cursor.
• Light, dark or the system's, plus a high-contrast option.

Privacy

Keyd asks for no permissions at all, including no Internet permission. Android enforces that, so nothing it sees can leave the phone.

Install

• Folio supporters: Folio 0.6.6 or later lists Keyd in the Market once you've redeemed your code. Folio downloads it, checks it against the signed source, and Android asks before installing.
• Anyone: download Keyd-0.1.0.apk below, or add this repository to Obtainium to get updates.

Open Keyd once after installing and its setup screen walks you through turning it on.
