Thanks for the report. We confirmed this was a bug in v0.5.7’s Python setup flow. It has been fixed in v0.5.8. Please download the latest v0.5.8 DMG and retry the setup; manually creating or removing .venv should not be necessary.

[v0.5.8] Python venv creation works, but auto-install mlx-lm fails, UI cannot detect installed mlx-lm

Environment:
Device: Apple M2 Max 64GB
OS: macOS 26.6
App Version: M-Courtyard v0.5.8
Reproduction steps:
Fully clean legacy folders: ~/.config/mcourtyard and /Users/vtr/Courtyard/python
Fresh install v0.5.8 and launch the app
Click "Configure Python Environment", virtual environment created successfully, UI shows Python environment ready.
Click "Install mlx-lm training framework". After execution finished, UI still displays mlx-lm Not Installed.
Repeating the install button cannot fix the issue.
Current status:
✅ The venv creation dead-loop bug reported in #11 is fixed.
❌ The subsequent mlx-lm installation & dependency validation logic is still broken.
Although mlx-lm is physically installed inside the auto-generated venv (can be imported successfully via terminal), the app’s internal package checker fails to detect it. The dashboard warning remains:
mlx-lm not installed or outdated, Gemma 4 is not supported temporarily.

Thanks for the detailed reproduction. You correctly identified the remaining issue: v0.5.8 fixed venv creation, but the installed mlx-lm could still be misdetected by the app. This has been fixed in v0.5.9. Please download the latest v0.5.9 DMG and retry. Thanks again for the clear report.
