Linea takes 72 MB less room once installed, and the Windows installer is smaller to download. Nothing about the overlay itself changed — this release only stops shipping parts of the runtime that were never used.

Why this was needed

Installing 0.1.4 left 331 MB on disk. Linea's own compiled code is 616 KB. Everything else came free with Electron, and a large share of it was for capabilities this app does not have:

Linea.exe (Chromium) 202 MB unavoidable
locales/ (55 .pak) 45 MB Chromium's own UI translations
dxcompiler.dll + dxil.dll 26 MB WebGPU shader compiler
LICENSES.chromium.html 15 MB attribution, must ship
icudtl.dat 10 MB Unicode data, keeps non-Latin lyrics working
app.asar 4.2 MB of which 1.9 MB was duplicated or oversized

What changed

One locale instead of fifty-five. Those .pak files hold translations of Chromium's own interface — the bookmark manager, the settings pages, the privacy dialogs. Linea renders none of that UI; its tray menu is built in-app. 45 MB down to 536 KB.

No WebGPU shader compiler. dxcompiler.dll and dxil.dll compile shaders for 3D pipelines. The only drawing surface in Linea is a 2D canvas — the cymatic thumbnail — so they never loaded. 26 MB removed.

A slimmer app archive. The @fontsource packages were being bundled whole even though the build already inlines the font files it needs, and the tray icon was a 1254-pixel image that gets drawn at 32. 4.2 MB down to 2.6 MB.

Installed size goes from 331 MB to 259 MB. The Windows installer is 75.8 MB.

Honest limits

This does not make Linea a small app. 202 MB of the remaining 259 MB is the Electron binary, and that number does not move without leaving Electron entirely — which would mean rewriting the whole main process. What this release removes is the avoidable weight, and there is not much of it left.

Memory use is unchanged. Disk footprint and RAM are different things. Linea still runs four Chromium processes using roughly 350 MB between them; nothing here targets that, and you should not expect the app to feel lighter while running.

Lyrics in every language still work. Locale files are interface translations, not script support. Rendering Hindi, Japanese or Korean lyrics depends on icudtl.dat and your system fonts, both untouched.

The software-rendering fallback was deliberately kept. Removing SwiftShader would have saved another 6.3 MB, but on machines with broken graphics drivers, in VMs, or over Remote Desktop it is what keeps the overlay drawing at all. Not worth the trade.
