Pack Info
Polytone lets you attach an info page to your pack. When your pack is enabled, a small white heart appears at the right end of its name in the resource pack screen. Clicking it opens a page where you can put whatever you like: what the pack does, your name, a Discord invite, a donation link, a changelog.
It costs you a few lines in your pack.mcmeta, and packs without them simply don't get a heart.
Add a polytone object next to the usual pack object in your pack.mcmeta. It has exactly two
fields, title and content, both optional:
{
"pack": {
"pack_format": 65,
"description": "My cool pack"
},
"polytone": {
"title": {
"text": "",
"extra": [
{ "text": "GODRAYS", "color": "gold", "bold": true },
{ "text": " v1.8", "color": "dark_gray" },
{ "text": "\nby MehVahdJukaar", "color": "gray" }
]
},
"content": {
"text": "",
"extra": [
{ "text": "Volumetric godrays and soft shadows for the vanilla sky.\n", "color": "white" },
{ "text": "Shadows can be turned off from the config button on this screen.\n\n" },
{
"text": "Discord",
"color": "#5865F2",
"underlined": true,
"click_event": { "action": "open_url", "url": "https://discord.com/invite/qdKRTDf8Cv" },
"hover_event": { "action": "show_text", "value": "Get help and post screenshots" }
}
]
}
}
}| Field | Description |
|---|---|
title |
The heading, drawn above the separator. Defaults to the pack's name as shown in the pack list, and to yellow if you don't pick a color. |
content |
The body, centered in the panel. Defaults to gray if you don't pick a color. |
Both are ordinary text components - the very same
thing pack.description accepts. There is no Polytone-specific schema here on purpose: everything
you already know about writing text for signs, books and chat applies.
That means you get, for free:
-
Multiple lines, with
\nanywhere in the text. Long lines also wrap on their own. -
Colors and formatting per piece, via
color,bold,italic,underlined. -
Translations, via
"translate"instead of"text", so your page can follow the game language. - Links and tooltips, see below.
Tip
Use { "text": "", "extra": [ ... ] } and give every entry its own color, like the example
above. If you write the list form [ "a", "b" ] instead, everything after the first entry
inherits the first one's styling, which is rarely what you want.
Any piece of the text with a click_event becomes clickable. Polytone doesn't have a separate
"links" list - a link is just styled text that happens to open a URL:
{
"text": "Ko-fi",
"color": "#FF5E5B",
"underlined": true,
"click_event": { "action": "open_url", "url": "https://ko-fi.com/mehvahdjukaar" },
"hover_event": { "action": "show_text", "value": "Buy me a coffee" }
}The game handles the rest: the cursor turns into a pointer over the link, hover_event shows as a
tooltip, and clicking asks the player to confirm before opening their browser. copy_to_clipboard
works too, if you'd rather hand out a Discord tag than a link.
Note
Only http and https URLs are accepted, exactly as everywhere else in the game. Anything else
makes the section fail to load, and the reason is written to the log.
Tip
Put a couple of spaces between links to lay them out in a row, or a \n to stack them.
Using each service's own brand color makes the page instantly readable: Ko-fi #FF5E5B,
Patreon #F96854, Discord #5865F2, Modrinth #1BD96A, CurseForge #F16436,
GitHub #C9D1D9, YouTube #FF4444.
- The section lives in the root
pack.mcmeta, not in an overlay directory. - The heart only shows for enabled packs.
- The page is read while the game scans your pack folder, so editing
pack.mcmetaneeds the pack list to refresh (leave and reopen the resource pack screen) rather than an F3+T reload.
-
Polytone Configs - the other
pack.mcmeta-adjacent feature, letting players toggle parts of your pack from a config button on the same screen.
