Toolbox v3.0.0
Toolbox v3.0.0
What's new
- Media Tool is now Toolbox. New name, new icon (four little tiles, one turned on its corner), and the same tools: Convert, Trim, Stitch, Download, Rename, Translate, Clean Up, DVD, Audio Default, Fix Duplicates and Rename Folders, plus the mods you add yourself.
- Your things come with you. On first launch your settings, your own mods and the downloaded ffmpeg are moved over from the old data folder automatically, so nothing needs to be set up again.
- Installs over the old app. The installer replaces Media Tool 2.x in place, and removes the old executable and shortcuts. Settings → Updates in an installed 2.x app finds this version as usual.
Things that changed name
If you use the command line or have scripted around the old names:
| Before | Now |
|---|---|
media-tool |
toolbox |
media-tool-web, media-tool-app |
toolbox-web, toolbox-app |
MEDIA_TOOL_NO_MODS |
TOOLBOX_NO_MODS (the old name still works) |
Python package media-tool |
toolbox |
Repository MerlijndeVos/MediaTool |
MerlijndeVos/Toolbox (old links redirect) |
Command-line options and mods are unchanged. A mod written for Media Tool 2.x works as it is.
Install
Download from GitHub Releases:
| Platform | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | Toolbox-Setup-3.0.0-win64.exe |
| macOS | Toolbox-3.0.0-macos.dmg |
| Linux | Toolbox-3.0.0-linux-{arch}.AppImage |
Installers are unsigned. Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper may ask you to confirm once (“Run anyway” / “Open”).
ffmpeg is not bundled in the installer. On first launch the app downloads a one-time essentials build into your user data folder (or reuses the one from Media Tool).
Updating from v2.0.0
Use Settings → Updates → Update to v3.0.0 in the desktop app, or download the new installer for your OS from the table above. On macOS and Linux the app is a new file, so you can delete the old Media Tool app afterwards.
