Release list
PhoneDrop 1.6.0
- Pair with a QR code: the Windows window shows a QR code; on the phone tap Scan QR code (or just use the camera) and confirm. No more typing PINs; the PIN stays as a fallback (click the QR code).
- The code carries a one-time key that never travels over the network: the PC proves it knows the key, and both sides keep it for the encrypted relay coming later.
- Scanning uses Google's built-in code scanner, so PhoneDrop needs no camera permission. Without Google Play services, scan with the camera app: the code is a link that opens PhoneDrop.
- Scanned by a phone without PhoneDrop? The link opens a page with the download.
- The Android app is now about 1 MB (was 2.2 MB): unused code is stripped from the release build.
Update both apps, then pair again with the QR code if you like. Updating works in-app (Updates on the phone, ⋯ → Update on Windows).
PhoneDrop 1.5.0
- Screenshots in feedback: attach up to 3 images to a bug report or an idea.
- Windows: Window snapshot (one click), Add image…, or just Ctrl+V after Win+Shift+S.
- Android: Add screenshot opens the system photo picker; PhoneDrop gets access only to the photos you pick.
- The website form takes images too (pick, paste or drop).
- Images are shrunk and re-encoded on your device, so metadata such as the photo location never leaves it.
Updating works in-app (Updates on the phone, ⋯ → Update on Windows).
PhoneDrop 1.4.0
- Phone → PC: Share › PhoneDrop to PC in any app on the phone (or Send to PC in PhoneDrop) and the file lands in Downloads on the PC. Several files at once work too.
- The PC picks the files up by itself, so nothing has to be opened in the Windows firewall.
- PC off? The phone keeps the files and the PC fetches them as soon as PhoneDrop runs there (they wait up to 3 days).
- Windows: ⋯ → Open files from the phone and Folder for files from the phone…; a notification when something arrives while the window is hidden.
- Sharper hero video on the website.
Both apps need 1.4.0 for this. Updating works in-app (Updates on the phone, ⋯ → Update on Windows).
PhoneDrop 1.3.0
- No .NET needed on Windows:
PhoneDrop-1.3.0-win-x64.exehas .NET built in, so there's nothing to install. Already have the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime?PhoneDrop-1.3.0-win-x64-small.exeis the same app in 0.4 MB. - Feedback from the apps: ⋯ → Send feedback on Windows, Feedback on the phone. Bugs, ideas and questions go straight to the author.
- Built in the open: this and every future release is built from the public code by GitHub Actions, the APK signature is checked against the PhoneDrop certificate and
SHA256SUMS.txtis generated there. - Fixes for older Android versions (10–13): notification permission, installer results and screen insets.
Updating from 1.2.0 works in-app (Updates on the phone, ⋯ → Update on Windows). From 1.3.0 on, the Windows app updates to the same variant (full or small) it already is.
PhoneDrop 1.2.0
- Folders: drop a whole folder and it lands on the phone as
Downloads/Drop/<folder>/…, subfolders included. Several files at once work as before. - Split APKs:
.apks(SAI, bundletool) and.xapkinstall like a normal APK, with one tap. - One summary notification for a batch of received files instead of one per file.
Updating from 1.1.0 works in-app (Updates on the phone, ⋯ → Update on Windows).
PhoneDrop 1.1.0
Updates itself from now on. Both apps check for new releases, download them, verify the SHA-256 checksum and install (Windows swaps its exe and restarts, Android opens the installer).
- Android: signed with the project's own release key.
⚠️ If you have 1.0.x on your phone, uninstall it once and install this version (Android won't update an app signed with a different key). Pair again afterwards. - Safer pairing: only while the PhoneDrop app is open on the phone; after five wrong PINs the phone picks a new PIN and waits a minute. The PIN is no longer shown in the permanent notification.
- Windows: clear messages when pairing is closed or locked;
PhoneDrop.exe --updateon the command line.
PhoneDrop 1.0.1
Windows app only (the Android APK is the same as 1.0.0).
- The window shows right away when the phone stops receiving (checks every few seconds) and when it is back.
- No taskbar button: PhoneDrop lives in the notification area; minimizing hides it there too.
- Shorter "phone not found" message.
PhoneDrop 1.0.0
First release.
- Windows:
PhoneDrop-1.0.0-win-x64.exe– a single file, no install. Needs the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime. - Android:
PhoneDrop-1.0.0.apk– Android 10 or newer.
Drag a file into the window and it lands on the phone; APKs open the Android installer (one tap). Pairing with a PIN, light and dark theme, English and Czech.
