  • Search inside the videos you've watched. Every word said in everything
you watch is kept on this Mac, and "What Was Said" in search finds the
moment and lands on the second. You don't have to remember the phrase
exactly — every word has to be in there, in any order, because nobody types
the sentence right. Only videos you genuinely watched are kept, it's capped
so it can never fill a drive, and it has its own switch and its own delete
button in Settings. Part of Telly Premium.
  • Lists that fill themselves. Give a list rules — these channels, these
words in the title, not those words, only what I haven't watched, posted in
the last week — and it re-runs them every time you open it. It reads its own
rules back to you in plain English as you set them.
  • Chapters under the picture. One block per chapter, as wide as it is
long, filling as you watch through it. Click any block to jump.
  • Subtitles stay on. Turn them on once and they're on for the next video
too. They stay off when a video hasn't got your language, rather than
turning up in one you can't read.
  • Levelling, in the bar under the video: quiet bits up, loud bits down, so
a phone-recorded talk followed by a studio-mastered sponsor read stops being
    a volume-knob evening.
  • Copy Link, and Copy At 4:03 — a link that starts where you are.
  • Telly can open YouTube links. Click one anywhere on your Mac and it can
come here instead of a browser.
  • Back Up Everything, and Restore. One file with your subscriptions,
lists, history, groups, hidden videos and settings. Restoring only ever adds
    — nothing already on the machine is removed, and restoring an old backup
can't wind your resume points backwards.
  • Copy Diagnostics, in Settings. Versions and counts, no titles, no
channels, no paths — and it goes to your clipboard and nowhere else. There's
no crash reporting in Telly, so this is the thing to paste into an email.
  • Try Again on a download that failed, and Save Them All on a list.
  • Search what you already have — watched, in a list, or on your disk.
  • Undo. Hiding a video, taking one out of a list, and deleting a whole
list can all be taken back. Clearing your history asks first, because that
    one genuinely can't be.
  • A video that won't play now says why. Blocked in your country, private,
    removed, members-only, age-restricted, a premiere that hasn't started, or
YouTube's bot check — each says what it means and whether trying again could
help. The full detail is one click away.
  • If something in Telly falls over, you get an explanation and a way back
    instead of a white window.
  • The keyboard works everywhere, with a focus ring you can actually see,
and every button has a name VoiceOver can read.
  • Empty screens say why they're empty. An empty feed has four different
causes and "hit Refresh Feed" was the wrong advice for three of them.
  • About now credits yt-dlp, youtubei.js, shaka, Electron, React, SQLite,
SponsorBlock and FFmpeg, which do a great deal of the work.

  • Watch two things at once. Hold ⌥ when you pop out a video and you get a
second mini player alongside the one already going, instead of it taking
over. Each has its own size, shape and transparency.
  • A first run that doesn't send you to Google. Type a channel's name, paste
its URL, or use its @handle, subscribe, and you have videos — without leaving
the app. Importing a subscription file is still there for anyone bringing
hundreds across; it's just no longer the only way in.

  • Record a channel. Hit the red dot next to a channel on the Subscription
List and its new uploads download themselves — on your disk before you sit
down. It keeps the newest few per channel and deletes the rest, so it can
never fill your drive, and it never touches a video you saved yourself. Part
    of Telly Premium.

  • Telly in the menu bar. Pause, skip, or put a list on in the corner of the
screen without switching windows. Off in Settings if you'd rather not.

  • Tell me when a channel posts. A bell on each row of the Subscription
List, off unless you ask — a notification for every upload across hundreds of
channels is something you'd switch off once and never switch back on.

  • A sleep timer. Stop after this video, or in 15 to 90 minutes. It pauses
rather than closing anything, so you can pick the thread up in the morning.

  • Playback speed is remembered per channel. Some channels you watch at
1.5× and some you don't, and setting it every time was a papercut.

  • Media keys and Now Playing. Play and pause from the keyboard row, with
the title, channel and thumbnail in Control Centre.

  • Press ? while watching for the list of keyboard shortcuts, and , and
. to step a frame at a time.

  • Skip sponsor reads, plugs and intros. Off by default, in Settings →
Sponsors, with a switch for each kind of segment. It uses the community
SponsorBlock database — and asks by a four-character code that thousands of
videos share, so nobody learns what you're watching. It's the only part of
Telly that talks to anything but YouTube, which is why it's off until you
    ask for it.
  • Updates are now a few megabytes instead of 190. Telly fetches only the
parts of a new version that actually changed.
  • The remote control prop had no buttons on it. Its twelve-key pad was a
template loop that never got expanded, so the app was drawing an empty panel.
  • Fixed two invalid attributes on the television artwork that put errors in the
console every time TV Mode opened.
