vapora 2.2.4

Network now starts with a compact preview. Maximize it inside Vapora to search profiles, filter communities and friend-list coverage, inspect neighbours, drag and pin nodes, and export an image. Profile pictures appear inside the circles, with the original placeholder for missing pictures. The classic Steam olive styling stays throughout.

  • Layout runs in a worker. Hover and selection avoid rebuilding the graph; pictures load for readable nodes in view, with limited concurrent requests.
  • Cancelling a scan keeps the desktop responsive while the partial report is analysed. Saved checkpoints can still resume.
  • Checkpoint polling no longer competes with saving on Windows. Newer account-history choices stay selected when an older saved-run response arrives.
  • Active scans show an approximate ETA once enough progress is available.
  • Help appears beside its information icon. History notices use neutral wording.

Dense graphs can still take time to arrange and render, especially with a software GPU. ETA is an estimate, not a completion guarantee.

Windows downloads include an installer and a portable EXE. The portable app keeps data in Vapora-data beside the EXE and needs about 1 GB free in Windows TEMP, plus space for scan data. Move the EXE and data folder together. Downloads are unsigned and not notarized; verify them against SHA256SUMS.txt.

Native package tests use local provider fixtures. This release does not change live Steam or history fetching behavior.

Ranking settings have shorter labels, aligned fields and help for every option. Contextual help works with keyboard focus, hover and click, avoids nearby controls and scrolls in short windows.

  • Report and history tabs stay on one scrollable row, with buttons to reach hidden tabs.
  • Settings and history import errors appear inside their dialogs. Failed settings saves keep a clear retry message.
  • History comments use retained names and avatars. Dates, ban values and durations are easier to read; original records and exports keep their exact values.

The classic Steam olive theme, scan formulas, background history, independent Details windows and Obsidian vault export remain available.

History loads in the background without opening a browser window or taking focus. Its button sits below Save settings and Load settings. The app uses History throughout its interface.

  • Open several Details windows at once to compare profiles or captured records. Drag their title bars, move them with arrow keys, and close the focused window with Escape.
  • Download an Obsidian vault ZIP from Exports. Profile notes use stable Steam IDs, name aliases and links for observed friendships. Coverage, missing observations and dated history stay visible. No plugin or new Steam request is needed.

The custom 2.2.1 portable launcher has been withdrawn. This release uses the stock silent launcher with direct ZIP-mode extraction, avoiding the slower 7z staging and copy that could delay startup. The portable download is larger. It keeps data in Vapora-data beside the EXE and needs about 1 GB free in Windows TEMP, plus space for scan data. Move the EXE and its data folder together; remembered keys remain tied to the OS account and machine that encrypted them.

History can be blocked by its provider; Retry and local import remain available, and Steam scans continue independently. Original captures and their identifiers remain unchanged.

Downloads are unsigned and not notarized. Verify them against SHA256SUMS.txt. Native package tests use local HTTP fixtures; the live background history check covers one account and does not establish large-network behavior.

vapora 2.2.0

SteamHistory loads automatically when you verify or select a Steam account. History collection runs separately from Steam scans, and saved captures stay available when a refresh fails.

  • Browse friendship periods, comments, persona and real names, URLs, avatars and historical profile/ban details. Search, filter by date and inspect the original fields.
  • Use the restored count-based friend and comment rankings, configurable reference populations, optional bounded overlap signals and exact sum/product location calculations. Captured evidence does not prove a relationship or residence.
  • Keep every distinct original capture and comment version. Imports, ranking saves, refreshes and reopened runs retain attached and cached evidence; identical imports do not duplicate sources. Newer dated evidence wins without hiding contradictory records.
  • SteamHistory's summary and accessible record counts stay separate. For the checked profile, the summary listed eight comments while public endpoints returned five. Vapora preserves all five and marks coverage partial. Deleted comments require SteamHistory supporter access; the exact discrepancy may also come from an outdated summary. A Steam API key does not grant supporter access.
  • Historical record dates that are null or malformed remain Undated and stay outside date filters. VAC counts survive Steam collection, saved reports and exports.

Windows x64 installer and portable EXEs, Linux x64 AppImage and macOS Apple Silicon DMG include the history helper and browser. No separate Node.js, Python or browser installation is needed for desktop downloads. The bundled runtime increases download size, and provider verification or access restrictions can still prevent loading.

Portable data stays in Vapora-data beside the EXE. Move both together. Remembered keys remain tied to the OS account and machine that encrypted them.

Saved files that do not match the current schema are rejected without automatic conversion or overwriting. Start a fresh scan and save current settings; original SteamHistory captures can be imported explicitly.

Downloads are unsigned and not notarized. Verify your download against SHA256SUMS.txt. Native package checks use local HTTP fixtures; the small live Steam and SteamHistory checks do not establish coverage for large live networks.

vapora 2.1.0

The classic Steam workspace now has a compact API-key dialog, in-app help and clearer estimates. Clicking a recent avatar selects that account for a new scan; saved reports still open through Results.

  • Set Nodes to 0 for no node cap, or Requests/min to 0 for no application pacing. Depth stays at 1-5. Steam limits, retries and cancellation still apply.
  • Opt into Remember API key in the desktop app when secure OS storage is available. Forget saved key removes the saved copy while keeping the current session usable. Browser keys stay session-only. Linux's insecure basic_text storage disables remembering.
  • Exports → Rebuild exports regenerates a completed run's analysis and CSVs from saved data, without a Steam key or new collection. Ranking, collected observations and attached history stay intact.
  • Results distinguish private, unavailable, skipped and unfinished observations. Disabled group/game signals show Off. Rebuild older exports to update their coverage counts.
  • Network builds when opened and preserves its search, selection and zoom between tabs. Help works on hover, keyboard focus and click/tap, with Escape dismissal.
  • Desktop maximize/restore uses the actual window state and aligned frame icons.

Windows x64 installer and portable EXEs, Linux x64 AppImage and macOS Apple Silicon DMG are included. The portable app keeps its data in Vapora-data beside the EXE. Remembered keys are tied to the OS account and machine that encrypted them, so enter the key again after moving to another machine.

Downloads are unsigned and not notarized. Check SHA256SUMS.txt against your download. These checks use local HTTP fixtures; large live Steam networks remain untested.

vapora 2.0.3

Windows now has a portable download alongside the installer. Open vapora-2.0.3-win-x64-portable.exe without installing Vapora or Node.js.

Keep the portable EXE in a writable folder. Runs, exports, settings and session files stay in Vapora-data beside it. Move the EXE and that folder together to keep your saved runs. VAPORA_ROOT overrides the data location if you set it. Existing installed-app data stays in the OS app-data directory under Vapora.

Windows checkpoint saving now retries brief file-replacement blocks. If saving still fails, the message names the filesystem error and a recovery action; the last successfully saved checkpoint stays intact. Fix the reported storage issue, then use Resume run.

The installer, Linux AppImage and macOS ARM64 DMG remain available. Enter a Steam Web API key using the toolbar key button for each app session. Downloads are unsigned by a publisher certificate and are not notarized. Check SHA256SUMS.txt against your download.

verification

Native desktop CI tests the installed Windows app, the actual portable EXE, the extracted Linux AppImage and the mounted macOS DMG. Each check completes a fixture scan, downloads its exports and closes the native app. The portable check also moves the EXE and its data to another folder, reopens the saved run and downloads its exports without repeating Steam collection.

Core checks run on all three operating systems, including a 500-account fixture scan with concurrent saved-run reads. Windows checks reproduce real sharing locks and verify successful retry, permanent-failure reporting and checkpoint preservation. Browser E2E runs on Linux. These are local fixture checks; large live Steam networks remain untested.

vapora 2.0.1

Desktop downloads now bundle Electron and Vapora. Download the file for your operating system and architecture; you do not need to install Node.js.

  • Windows: run the .exe installer.
  • Linux: make the .AppImage executable and open it. If FUSE is unavailable, use --appimage-extract-and-run.
  • macOS: open the .dmg and drag Vapora into Applications.

The desktop app uses the same classic Steam UI, scanner and reports as the browser app. Enter a Steam Web API key using the toolbar key button. Saved runs stay in the OS app-data directory under Vapora.

Downloads are unsigned by a publisher certificate and are not notarized. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. macOS may require approval in Privacy & Security. Check the source and release verification before approving a download.

verification

The desktop packaging workflow builds on Windows, Linux and macOS and tests the actual installed or extracted app with fresh storage and a local Steam fixture before saving downloads. It checks bundled assets, native startup, scanning, exports and shutdown. The release runbook requires all native jobs to pass before attaching downloads.

The existing source/browser/CLI workflow remains available. Large live networks remain untested, and ranking/location scores are heuristics rather than proof of real-life relationships or residence.

vapora 2.0.0

@Microck Microck released this 06 Oct 21:32

vapora 2.0.0

Vapora 2 replaces the Python app with a shared TypeScript core, a classic green Steam interface, an Electron desktop window and a CLI.

getting started

Install Node.js 24 or newer, download the source archive, then run:

npm ci
npm run build
npm start -- serve

Open the local address printed in the terminal and enter a Steam Web API key using the toolbar key button. Run npm run desktop for the native Electron window. This release uses source downloads; the 1.0.2 Python executable belongs to the previous app.

features

  • Browser and desktop interfaces with Steam avatars, saved runs, profile inspection and network exploration.
  • Depth 1-5, node caps, an explicit private-profile skip policy, request pacing, retries and resumable checkpoints.
  • Community and centrality analysis, friend rankings, location signals and Gephi exports.
  • Offline reranking and named settings profiles.
  • Local SteamHistory JSON/NDJSON import, matching-run attachment and history downloads.

fixes

  • Fresh profile lookup replaces incomplete saved-run identity after a denied-key scan.
  • Browser Exports explains when a saved run must be opened and shows downloads for the selected run.
  • Window controls and output-folder actions operate on the native desktop app.

upgrading from 1.x

  • Node.js 24 replaces the Python runtime and start.py launch.
  • Start fresh runs and settings profiles. Python checkpoints and earlier local formats are not migrated; existing files remain untouched. Use a separate data directory for Vapora 2.
  • The ranked CSV is probable-friends.csv. Run folders are outputs/<run-id>/.
  • Private skipping, shared groups and shared games are off by default. Shared-group access may be unavailable for your Steam key.

verification and limits

Core CI passed on Linux, Windows and macOS, and browser E2E passed on Linux. Native Electron workflows passed on Linux and macOS. Two five-account live Steam scans passed, including one started from the browser.

Native Windows startup and packaged installers remain unverified. Windows needs the Visual C++ runtime for its architecture. Large live networks remain untested, and ranking/location scores are heuristics rather than proof of real-life relationships or residence.

Export files are replaced individually. If a disk or permission failure interrupts reranking, fix the storage issue and run npm start -- analyze RUN_ID --root DIRECTORY to rebuild exports from the saved checkpoint.
