Organizational Security Policy Around IE in Edge

Good Day,

My organization has a security policy around IE that prevents the IE driver from accessing IE mode in Edge. I am met with the alert
"This action is restricted. For more information, please contact your system administrator." and then taken to the blank default webdriver start page. My question is, is there is a way to open websites in Edge in IE mode using the Edge or IE driver? I believe what is happening now is that the IE driver is opening IE and then navigating to Edge which is interfered by the security policy.

Driving Edge in IE mode is supported using IE driver: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webdriver-chromium/ie-mode

However, Edge is still subject to group policy when running under a WebDriver. If your organization prevents running Edge in IE Mode, then it won't be possible to test with IE driver.

My organization does not have a policy that prevents running Edge in IE mode. My organization does have a policy that prevents users from accessing IE. My organization also has a policy that redirects users accessing IE to Edge. Does the IEDriverServer open IE with the expectation that it will be redirected to the Edge browser? If so is there a way to open Edge in IE mode without redirection?

IEDriverServer was originally designed to open IE and does not handle automatic redirection to Edge. It has been updated in versions 4.0.0+ to support launching Edge in IE mode. To do this, you need to pass the proper flag. Assuming you are using Selenium, have a look at the InternetExplorerOptions.AttachToEdgeChrome property. The instructions at the link above have a complete sample. If your organization allows access to Edge and usage of IE mode, then this should work as expected.
