DuoBar 1.1

DuoBar 1.1 expands the original three-state menu bar indicator with adaptive desktop monitoring, improved battery behavior, broader Mac support, and localization.

What's New

Adaptive Ring

On desktop Macs, the outer ring can represent display brightness and automatically surface CPU, memory, or thermal pressure when it matters.

Battery Ring

Charging now has a dynamic bolt that follows battery progress. Optional Battery Color Coding reflects charging, Low Power Mode, and low battery states.

Adjustable Icon Size

Adjust DuoBar's menu bar size to better match your setup.

More Macs

DuoBar now supports macOS 13+ and both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs through a Universal 2 build.

Localization

Added Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

New App Icon

DuoBar has a new app icon.

Installation

Download DuoBar-1.1.0.dmg and move DuoBar to Applications.

This build uses Hardened Runtime and ad-hoc signing but is not yet notarized. If macOS blocks the first launch, right-click DuoBar and choose Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

DuoBar 1.0.0

DuoBar 1.0.0 is the first stable release.

Highlights

  • Redesigned three-part menu-bar glyph
  • Live battery level in the outer arc, with charging and low-battery feedback
  • Automatic Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and offline network state in the center
  • Four-dot live output-volume indicator
  • Interactive volume and mute controls where the active output supports them
  • Temporary AirPods and Bluetooth-headphones connection presentation
  • Improved glyph size and readability
  • Event-driven system monitoring and lifecycle improvements
  • Graceful Wi-Fi behavior when Location permission is unavailable

Requirements and limitations

  • Requires macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon.
  • This independently distributed release is ad-hoc signed and is not notarized. macOS may require explicit approval through Finder's Open command or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
  • Wi-Fi SSID access may require Location permission; basic network status continues to work without it.
  • Some HDMI, AirPlay, USB, and other external audio outputs control volume on the device and cannot be adjusted by DuoBar.
  • Bluetooth audio and AirPods family detection is best-effort using public macOS metadata. DuoBar does not identify exact AirPods generations.

DuoBar processes system status locally and includes no analytics, tracking, telemetry, or backend service.

  • Live Wi-Fi connection, signal, and network name when available

  • Wi-Fi network name can be unavailable without Location permission.
  • Bluetooth support is limited to controller availability and power state.

Permissions
