First run stuck

Environment

• OS: Windows 10
• VS Code: v1.119.0
• Claude Code for VS Code: v2.1.133

Installation

Installed via:

claude mcp add semble -s user -- uvx --from "semble[mcp]" semble

Problem

The very first session call always gets stuck indefinitely.
I waited up to 20 minutes one time, but the operation never completed.

After manually interrupting the first run, all subsequent calls work normally.

I also reproduced the same behavior when running Claude in the terminal (using debug mode).
No obvious errors appear in the debug logs.

Additionally, the index file is never created inside the project folder.

Expected Behavior

The initial session should complete successfully without hanging.

Hey! Sorry to hear this happened. So you mean to say that it does work correctly after you cancel the first time? Does this happen with any repo? Do you always clone from git? How large is the repo you're testing this on? I'm trying to separate git/size-related causes from other ones.

Also: what version of semble are you using? I'm assuming the latest one.

Hey, I’m using the latest version.

Yes — after cancelling the first time, it starts working fine.

For a small project (~50 files), it works correctly from the start.
With my main medium project (~2,606 files and ~404,651 lines), I consistently have this issue on the first run.

I suspect it might be related to initial indexing or file scanning. I also hope the tool is skipping folders like node_modules.

Thanks for the extra information. I'll investigate some more.

About skipping: we ignore everything in your .gitignore + a list of standard folders, which you can find here, and which includes node_modules.
