Emerald 2.1.0
Emerald 2.1 adds private, Markdown-aware spell checking, a hold-to-view
keyboard reference, more faithful Read Mode rendering, and a consistent compact
interface across dialogs and menus.
New
- Added offline spell checking backed by Emerald's private, vendored
Hunspell engine. US English is bundled with the app and needs no network
connection. - Added right-click spelling suggestions, Add to personal dictionary, and
Ignore for this session. Code, math, links, URLs, HTML, and other
non-prose Markdown ranges are skipped. - Added optional, hash-verified Italian, German, French, and Spanish dictionary
packs under Settings -> Spelling. Packs are published and updated
separately from the application. - Added a centered keyboard shortcut cheatsheet. Hold
Alt+Xto see the
categorized reference and release either key to dismiss it without changing
focus or triggering Quick Jump.
Rendering and interaction
- Fixed mixed inline styles in Read Mode, including highlights containing bold
spans and strikethrough text containing wiki links. - Made heading sections foldable in Read Mode.
- Reworked multi-line quote and callout painting to remove gaps, incorrect edit
offsets, and stray corner pixels while keeping Read and Edit Mode aligned. - Refreshed settings, spelling management, search, file pickers, update prompts,
galleries, and other dialogs with one compact charcoal-and-emerald design. - Improved dialog alignment and removed native dotted focus outlines while
retaining clear solid keyboard-focus states.
Maintenance and documentation
- Self-hosted the pinned Hunspell source and dictionary snapshots with license,
provenance, integrity, and review automation included in the repository. - Added README screenshots for Read Mode and Graph View and expanded the manual
and shortcut documentation for the new features. - Extended UI, Markdown, spelling, performance, and security test coverage.
