Mnemosyne OS is a sovereign, local-first cognitive operating system for your knowledge. v1.2.0 is all about reading: every document your memory ingests — text PDFs, scanned PDFs, EPUB — now flows in reliably, with a brand-new local OCR engine for the hard cases.

📄 PDF extraction, fixed everywhere

A packaging regression broke PDF text extraction in v1.1.0 — chat attachments, vault scans and retrieval were all affected. v1.2.0 repairs the entire pipeline: PDFs are read correctly again in every corner of the app, and the fix is locked in by tests so it stays fixed.

🔍 Local OCR engines (Settings → OCR)

Scanned and image-only PDFs are no longer invisible. Install a local OCR engine once and every scanned document becomes readable — in chat, in your vaults, in retrieval:

  • RapidOCR — light and fast (~200 MB, CPU-only). Free for everyone.
  • MinerU — power tier for complex layouts and tables (GPU, Engramm license).

Everything runs locally: stepped install progress that survives navigating away, an in-settings Test button to judge OCR quality on your own documents, and page-range bounds so big scans always finish.

📖 EPUB & RTF support

The document pipeline now reads EPUB (with real chapters from the book's table of contents) and RTF, alongside PDF, DOCX and Markdown — full-book text, no OCR needed.

🛡️ Reliability

  • Everything that waits now fails fast and loud instead of hanging silently: downloads, OCR installs, engine warm-ups and network fetches all carry safety timeouts.
  • Clearer Settings pages: proper loading and error states with one-click retry.
  • Voice pipeline polish: engine warm-up states and language-matched voices.

🔄 Updates — please read once

If you installed v1.1.0 or earlier, download this version manually — one last time. A configuration bug meant previous builds silently never checked for updates. Starting with v1.2.0 the updater is live — and sovereign, like everything else here: the app only checks release metadata in the background, asks before downloading anything, and never installs without your confirmation.
