Your memory, your machine. Mnemosyne OS is a sovereign, local-first memory
operating system: your documents, notes and conversations become a living,
searchable memory that never leaves your computer unless you say so.

This release is named for its guiding idea: memory asks before it acts.
Apps own their memory behind a covenant you unlock. Big ingestions ask
before they cost you. Deleting a vault asks you to name what dies.

Highlights

🧠 Switch brains mid-conversation

A new model pill right in the chat lets you switch between your configured AI
providers instantly — including Mnemosyne Cloud with its live credit balance.
Local GGUF models load through a visible ritual (RAM check → load → activation
with a real memory readout), and they now degrade gracefully on tight RAM
instead of failing: the context ladder (32k → 16k → 8k → 4k) keeps the model
usable, and retrieval budgets follow the model's real context window.

⚖️ Big ingestions ask first

Point Mnemosyne at a large folder and it no longer just dives in. A census pass
counts the exact files and megabytes before any embedding, and above the
governance threshold you get a prompt — Start / Start slowed / Later — with
a measured ETA. "Later" politely re-offers at the next boot. Your machine, your
call, including the cost of remembering.

📦 Every app owns its memory

Each installed cartridge (MnemoReader, BMAD, Translator, Founders Console,
Restaurant Manager, Social Engine…) gets its own walled-off sandbox vault —
isolated from federated retrieval, the Neural Map and Dream State until you
unlock permanence. Uninstalling an app asks what to do with its memory, and
"keep" is the default.

🔍 Scanned PDFs, finally remembered

Scanned documents ingest as pending placeholders and are re-ingested
automatically the moment an OCR engine is installed. No lost files, no manual
re-scan.

✨ A quieter, sharper shell

The always-visible chrome moved to the hairline design language: 1px
borders, accent washes, and a shared line-art glyph set instead of emoji
stickers. The Vault Pad gains foldable groups, a mini density mode, per-vault
accent colors, and a padlock watermark showing each app vault's permanence
state at a glance. Deleting a vault now asks you to type its name — proof
you know which memory dies.

Fixed

• Packaged builds lost their background workers (voice transcription and
  governance scans were dead in production) — all workers now ship unpacked,
  with a drift guard so it can never happen again.
• Boot stalls caused by system-metrics collection on the main process —
  moved to a worker; app-vault mounting no longer sits on the boot path.
• Suspended vaults reported "0 chronicles" in vault listings despite a full
  database.
• Removed dock icons came back after a reload — removals now persist.
• A batch of invisible-ink and translucent-overlay bugs across Settings
  modals, plus dozens of i18n gaps (EN/FR/ES are fully mirrored).

First-launch notes

• Windows: SmartScreen may warn on new releases → More info → Run anyway.
• macOS: unsigned build → right-click the app → Open on first launch.
• Linux: chmod +x *.AppImage && ./*.AppImage, or sudo dpkg -i *.deb.

Auto-update is built in: installed apps pick up future releases from this
repository automatically.
