Mnemosyne remembered everything you wrote — and nothing you photographed. That changes today.

343 commits since v1.3.8. One theme: sight.

🖼️ Theia — your memory learns to see

A new image engine — Theia, named for the Titaness of sight, sister of Mnemosyne — gives every vault an eye.

  • Images in your watched folders are embedded locally (SigLIP 2, running on your machine — no cloud, no API, no account).
  • Ask in chat: "show me the pieces that look like a blue cup" — the matching photos appear as thumbnails under the answer, in any of the app's languages.
  • Color words are honored by a pixel-level palette channel; recurring subjects are named automatically as emergent categories.
  • Three recall channels — semantic, color, category — fused by rank. Every lever was measured on a frozen internal benchmark before shipping; levers that did not pay were removed.
  • Honest by construction: a cold or still-indexing engine says so instead of claiming "no matches", and the model may never pretend it saw pixels it did not receive.

Off by default. One Settings toggle installs the engine, downloads the pinned weights, and indexes your vaults. When off, nothing changes — byte for byte.

🗂️ The gallery — your images, one place, alive

  • Every image your vaults hold, grouped by day — a photo you add appears live, without reopening.
  • Filter by vault, star rating, pinned, or the categories the engine discovered.
  • The human always outranks the model: rate, pin, describe, correct a category, teach a new one, rename or merge — the automatic pass never overwrites what you asserted.
  • Full in-app viewer: cursor-centric zoom, drag-to-pan, filmstrip.
  • Adding a whole image folder is one gesture: pick the folder, name the vault, done.

🌌 The canvas unlocks — an endless plane

  • Pan by dragging the void, zoom from 10 % to full detail (Ctrl + wheel anywhere), double-click empty space to travel, one control to frame everything.
  • Decorate the plane: analog world clocks, weather, photo frames, and stickers — a built-in animated library, plus libraries you make from any folder.
  • Every ornament has real hands: resize, rotate, tint, freeze, straighten.
  • The menu rail docks to any edge — left, right, top or bottom.

📥 Images flow straight into memory

  • Paste or drop an image anywhere on the canvas: a picker asks which vault receives it — with a standing choice if you always answer the same, and a "+ new vault" path.
  • A capture browser (beta) opens the web in a clean, sandboxed window — your search engine, your favorites — and captures a page's images into the vault you chose.
  • In chat, a pasted or dropped image becomes a thumbnail the model actually sees.
  • Every capture is one human gesture — nothing is captured automatically.

🧠 Local models work in the installed app — fixed

On a fresh install, every local model failed with callback is required: the packaged app resolved a transitive dependency to the wrong major version. Fixed, and the build now carries a strict gate that fails if any version conflict survives packaging. Reported by a beta tester — thank you.

📝 Notes grows up

A constellation view (deep-space map of the corpus), a kanban that shows every spine's truth, a corpus mind map, highlights in five colours with remarks you can read back and search, read-aloud in the language the note is written in, linked folders watched to the bottom.

🔊 Reading aloud stops gasping

Read-aloud builds a lead and prepares ahead — gapless playback even on slow local engines. One engine per surface (conversation / read-aloud / long reading), an expressivity control, a new local engine (Chatterbox). MnemoReader 1.1.0 prepares chapters ahead and speaks seven languages. Agents can render a script to a WAV through the SDK — behind the first sensitive permission scope, never auto-granted; an unknown voice clone is refused, never substituted.

Under the hood

core-engine 1.2.0 (per-kind image derivative versions, FK cascade, visible embedding debt instead of silent drops) · the TTS sidecar no longer eats boot RAM · ghost image derivatives can no longer score · vault creation asks what should feed it and the new vault is usable immediately · dozens of canvas/widget fixes (modals always in view, z-order never walks backwards).

Install & verify

  • Windows builds are code-signed (Certum OV certificate, RFC-3161 timestamped) and auto-update once installed.
  • macOS (Apple Silicon) and Linux (AppImage / deb) builds are unsigned; on macOS, right-click → Open on first launch.
  • Your data never leaves your machine. No account. No telemetry.
