Automatic updates

Context now keeps itself up to date. Once a day it looks for a new release, downloads it in the background and installs it, the bundled ctx backend included, the next time you quit.

  • Context → Check for Updates… checks right away.
  • Settings → General → Updates shows your version and turns the automatic checks and installs off.
  • Clicking Install and Relaunch while a task is running asks whether to restart now or once the task has finished.

If you are on 0.1.0, download this release by hand one last time: 0.1.0 cannot update itself, and every release from here on arrives on its own.

First release of Context: a local-first coding agent written in Rust, with a native macOS app and a terminal UI. Bring any OpenAI-compatible model. Your code, history and index stay on your machine.

Install

Download Context-0.1.0.dmg, open it and drag Context to Applications. The app bundles the ctx backend, so nothing else is needed.

  • Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later on Apple silicon.
  • Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
  • Context-0.1.0.zip contains the same app, for scripted installs.

To use the CLI and terminal UI without the app, build from source (see the README).
