A new home: your launcher instances, and adding a mod to one in a few clicks.

  • The app opens on the instances it finds in Prism, PolyMC, Modrinth App, CurseForge,
ATLauncher, GDLauncher, FTB App, SKlauncher and the Minecraft Launcher, each with its
launcher's icon (or its initial), version, loader and mod count.
  • Add a mod: search Modrinth for the instance's version and loader, see what is possible for
each result (an official build, other versions only, another loader only), and add it
straight into the instance's mods folder with its dependencies. Undo takes it back and puts
    back anything it replaced.
  • History lists every add, newest first, with Undo on the ones still in place.
  • Each instance says which of its mods have no build for its version and loader on Modrinth,
each linking to its page: the first ones to look at if the game crashes.
  • The engine is the modkeel command-line tool from PyPI, now 0.1.11.

Each file as VirusTotal's engines judged it on 2026-10-15 (rescanned weekly, so a fixed false positive shows here). A flag from one or two engines is often a false positive on apps that bundle a Python program; the report shows which engine and why.

Getting a mod from a GitHub link now works on an ordinary PC.

  • Paste a repository or branch link (for example a community port no one publishes a JAR for)
and Modkeel builds it: without git installed (it downloads the branch from GitHub) and on the
Java that Minecraft version needs (downloaded once if missing).
  • Builds no longer hang in the app. Gradle was waiting on the app's connection to the engine.
  • The engine is the modkeel command-line tool from PyPI, now 0.1.10.

v0.1.2

The Windows installer no longer carries a program that antivirus engines mistake for malware.

  • On Windows the engine now runs inside python.org's official embeddable Python, whose
python.exe and DLLs are signed by the Python Software Foundation, installed in the app's
engine folder. It replaces a one-file executable that unpacked Python into a temporary
folder each time it started, which three VirusTotal engines flagged on 0.1.1 as generic or
machine-learning detections (false positives, reported to each vendor).
  • macOS and Linux are unchanged. The engine is still the modkeel command-line tool from
PyPI, at the version pinned in engine/requirements.txt (0.1.7).

v0.1.1
ec890a5

Modkeel for desktop is now open source, under the MIT license.

  • The app's code is in this repository, and this release is the first one built here by
GitHub Actions: each file carries a build provenance attestation, so you can check which
commit and which workflow run made it (gh attestation verify <file> -R Modkeel/app, see the
    README).
  • The engine inside is the modkeel command-line tool from PyPI, at the version pinned in
    engine/requirements.txt (0.1.7).
  • Nothing else changes: if you have 0.1.0, this update only swaps in the openly built copy.

@juanzab juanzab released this 09 Oct 23:40

The first public release of Modkeel for desktop.

  • Get a mod for the Minecraft version you play: the author's build when there is one,
otherwise an older build that still runs there or a community port, each checked before
you get it, with what was checked shown next to it.
  • Move a pack to another Minecraft version: pick a launcher instance (Prism, Modrinth App,
CurseForge, the Minecraft Launcher) or a mods folder. Every JAR is identified and resolved
for the new version; with Prism the result becomes a new instance beside the old one, which
    is never touched.
  • Sign in with GitHub (optional) to let Modkeel search more community forks.
  • Updates: from now on the app tells you when a new version is out and updates itself.

Not signed by Microsoft or Apple yet: see the README for how to open it the first time.
