bug(YouTube): Swiping thru Shorts with higher video quality shows old video overlay #668

Description

@satyasaipandey29-oss

Bug description

Dear Devs,

In YouTube Shorts feed, changing the video quality (e.g., from Auto/1080p to 4K or any other option) causes severe metadata desync issues:

  • The next Short plays automatically (as expected in swipe feed), but the title, description, channel name, likes/comments overlay, etc., remain stuck on the previous Short.
  • When I swipe/change again to another Short, the correct video eventually plays, but before it finishes (or mid-playback), the next Short starts loading/swiping automatically, again without updating the title/description/channel metadata.
  • This creates a chain: metadata lags behind by 1-2 Shorts, making it impossible to read the correct description/title while swiping normally.
  • The issue is worse/triggered specifically when quality is changed mid-Short or on entry. Without changing quality, swiping sometimes works normally, but any quality adjustment breaks sync completely.

Setup

  • Morphe patches version: 1.16.0‑dev.5
  • YouTube base version: [20.40.45]
  • Spoof client tried: [Android VR, Android Reel,
    visionOS — same issue across]
  • Other relevant settings: Prioritize video quality OFF, advanced quality OFF, remember last quality OFF (or whatever your config is)
  • Device: One Plus Nord CE 3 Lite Android 15
  • Network: Wi-Fi (strong/stable)

Additional info

  • This seems related to quality change triggering some UI/refresh desync in Shorts player.
  • Happens consistently when forcing higher quality (related to my ongoing quality drop bug, but separate).
  • No crash, just persistent metadata lag/stuck state.
  • Can provide screenshots (before/after swipe) or debug logs if needed (enable debug logging in Morphe > Miscellaneous > Debugging).

Thanks for the great patches—love the ad-free + premium quality when it works smoothly! Hope this helps nail down the Shorts player refresh bug.
