Summary

WriteIDE 0.6 rebuilds the app as an editorial studio, adds a spoiler-safe Reader Codex, and makes progression part of the writing workflow: character classes, a story-wide tracker, and charge-limited skills, all backed by the same point-in-time history as stats and inventory. Full write-up: https://writeide.com/blog/whats-new-in-0-6-0

New

  • A complete editorial-studio redesign across the editor, planning views, world library, entity dossiers, settings, onboarding, commands, and active dialogs, with Nightjade and light themes.
  • Character classes with per-level growth overrides, built-in starter sets, scene-anchored class changes, class-aware level-ups, and a full Classes workspace with projections and current members.
  • Story Overview, a book-wide tracker where the cast, power curves, factions, and current story position move together on one dial.
  • Reader Codex, a local static companion site compiled through an author-set chapter cap. Readers can move within that boundary while stats, classes, inventory, equipment, skills, quests, relationships, faction power, and Chronicle entries fold to their position.
  • Charge-limited skills. Each use is recorded at a scene, remaining charges are point-in-time correct, and the final use preserves an expended state with its chapter and scene in history instead of deleting the skill.
  • A tracker-only project path for writers who want to keep drafting in Word, Scrivener, or Docs while WriteIDE handles continuity.
  • Twenty free, account-free browser tools at https://writeide.com/tools for stat sheets, blue boxes, Royal Road formatting, progression math, names, release planning, and other small author jobs.

Improved

  • DOCX output now uses a standard manuscript layout with US Letter or A4 paper, title-page handling, running headers, page numbers, real links, and Word-compatible system blocks.
  • Older writing-ide profiles are detected and offered as a safe import. The source stays untouched, and a verified SQLite snapshot plus local images are staged before anything is adopted.
  • Database failures now use a clear, actionable presentation layer instead of raw SQLite messages or an empty-looking project picker.
  • Deleting an unused stat template cleans up its owned definitions, classes, and analytics. Templates with attached history are refused rather than silently rewriting author data.
  • Arbitrary limits are gone from character narrative fields and long-form project, item, skill, version, and quest descriptions. Short identity fields remain bounded.
  • Windows installer and portable builds now use Azure Trusted Signing. macOS signing and notarization continue through the existing release process.

WriteIDE remains free, local-first, and account-free. AI features remain disabled in this release, and the app does not generate or rewrite your prose. macOS 12+, Windows, and Linux are supported.
