0.7.3
Summary
WriteIDE 0.7.3 lets damage, healing and Record a change work with every numeric resource a character has, records stat changes made outside the editor at the story position you are looking at, and makes History, Scenes to review and scene deletion easier to follow. Full write-up: https://writeide.com/blog/whats-new-in-0-7-3
New
- Custom resource pools: Apply damage, Heal and Record a change list every numeric resource on the character, such as Qi or Stamina, alongside HP and MP. Depleted and decimal values are included, each resource keeps its own maximum, and several resources can change in one step together with an optional consumable. A maximum that is missing or invalid is explained instead of being guessed from the current value, and the selected scene is recorded in History. Automatic XP and level-up progression is a separate feature and is not part of this change.
- Changes made outside the editor land where you are looking: edits from a character sheet's Stats tab and Cmd+K commands used away from the editor are recorded at the Story Overview position, the same place Record a change uses, instead of floating at the last scene. The sheet confirms where the change landed.
- Recording destination before you save: the character sheet shows which story position a stat edit will be recorded at before you save it.
- Scenes to review after you reorganize: moving, merging or deleting scenes opens a review item for a scene whose stat block no longer agrees with the recorded values at its new position. The row and its comparison say what moved, such as "Scene moved: Scene C". Blocks that still agree, or cannot be compared, open nothing.
- Scenes to review shows the edit that prompted it: an item names the recorded change behind it and lets you open that scene without marking the item reviewed. A second earlier edit refreshes existing items rather than duplicating them or resetting your decisions.
- Counted Scenes to review: a Scenes to review entry under Review shows how many items are open and works from the keyboard. Inspection shows your project's own scene numbers, so "Scene 11" means the eleventh scene in your outline.
- Versions: editor history is labeled Versions and is also available from the chapter toolbar, with a return to the same scene or chapter.
- Character stat checks: the character History filter formerly called Needs review is now Character stat checks, so it is not confused with Scenes to review or saved Versions.
- Character details keep your Overview position: opening a character from a past or pinned Overview shows stats and class at that scene in read-only form, the Cast header names the scene, and View Current returns to the editable present.
- Changes without a scene link are explained: History labels a change that has no scene as "Recorded without a scene link" and shows which scene currently holds its story position. Link to scene… attaches it to a scene you choose.
- Deleting a scene that has recorded changes: the confirmation shows how many changes it holds and offers to move them to a neighboring scene so they stay linked, or keep them in History without a scene link. Moving changes and deleting the scene succeed or fail together.
- Level up, Apply damage and Heal for spreadsheet-imported characters: stats imported from a spreadsheet, such as a Level or HP column, are recognized by name. Level up previews and records the change against the real stat. A character with no matching stat gets a plain "No level stat" or "No HP stat" message and nothing is written or reported as recorded.
- Command search matches the labels you see on screen, so typing the visible name of an action finds it.
- Compact character sheet: Stats, Inventory, Skills and Quests keep a compact character heading so primary actions stay in view, and stat and inventory setup actions sit in keyboard-accessible menus. Narrative tabs keep the full identity.
- Spreadsheet-tracker checklist: after importing a spreadsheet, the checklist counts your baseline as established, explains that changes land at a chapter, and adds a step to check the change in the character's Stat history.
- Project start and library: starting a manuscript, import or tracker uses one consistent flow, a manuscript import under review stays open while the library refreshes behind it, and a new tracker opens on its Overview.
- History checks refresh after you apply a stat system, and editor character details stay open and show the updated system after a stat update.
Fixed
- Record a change launched right after a spreadsheet tracker import now opens its character picker instead of doing nothing.
- The level-up preview labels an imported Level stat with its own name rather than a literal LVL badge.
- Skill, Item and Quest pickers opened from a character sheet are readable in Nightjade, and Escape or Cancel returns focus to the control that opened them.
- The slash-command Pro Tip disappears as soon as you start writing or a save succeeds, stays dismissed, and no longer covers your prose.
- Dragging a scene down within a chapter drops it after the target, including onto the last scene, instead of just before it.
- Cancelling the file chooser while naming a tracker from a spreadsheet keeps the naming step open with Choose spreadsheet focused, so you can try again.
- Scenes to review shows each scene's position in your outline, and ordinary scene saves no longer remove open review items. Actual scene deletion and merging still handle them as before.
- Deleting a scene together with its recorded changes can no longer leave History moved while the scene remains.
Release safety
- Stat changes, resource writes and moved History continue through WriteIDE's project-scoped writers and temporal history; nothing becomes a second source of truth.
- Linked DOCX write-back and returned-PDF review remain disabled and are not part of this release. Existing manuscript import and export remain available.
WriteIDE remains free, local-first, and account-free. AI features remain disabled.
