X0X-RMX v1.1.0 Stable
The maintainer approved X0X-RMX v1.1.0 Stable after successful physical FM-1 RC2 validation. This release publishes the exact tested RC2 firmware bytes without rebuilding or repackaging.
Exactly four new features:
- G.711 µ-law TR-909 cymbal sample compression.
- BREAK FILTER, with LP/OFF/HP operation.
- ENV + KNOB parameter reset.
- USB project backup/restore, through Chrome/Edge Web MIDI and the Python CLI.
Existing ORB REMIX, MREV, Morph, TB3PO, Grids and 303/808/909 engines remain available.
Installer · USB backup · Manual · Emulator
USB backup accepts only RMX-compatible files. Uploaded user loops must be backed up separately. Calibration, Undo history and session-only Grids controls are excluded. Restore requires stopped playback and explicit SEL confirmation on the FM-1; HOME cancels. During playback, backup exports saved data only; stop first to include unsaved edits.
v1.0.0 upgrade warning: the v1.0.1 direction numbering still applies (FWD=0, REV=1, MREV=2, PING=3, RND=4), without direction migration. Old PING becomes MREV; old RND becomes PING. Reselect and save affected directions. Existing v1.0.1 direction values are preserved.
Maintainer-reported hardware validation: installation/operation, two cores, built-in PERFORMANCE benchmark, BREAK FILTER, ENV reset, 909 cymbals, USB backup/restore, HOME cancellation and other checklist items, existing projects, user samples and persistence succeeded. No audio glitches or regressions were reported.
| Workload | v1.0.0 mean / peak | RC2 mean / peak |
|---|---|---|
| FACTORY LOOP | 41.1% / 49% | 41.5% / 50% |
| ALL FIVE | 56.6% / 69% | 56.8% / 70% |
| WORST CASE | 70.7% / 90% | 71.0% / 89% |
Differences are small. No numerical live-filter measurements, specific USB timings or physical power-cut results are claimed. Automated simulated interrupted-commit recovery is separate from hardware observations. The established RC2 suite passed 82 groups, 0 failures, with 2 unavailable external 808/Open303 reference comparisons skipped. Release preparation also passed package identity, Pages, backup protocol and headless browser installer/emulator checks; no physical flashing was performed by automation.
Immutable firmware: x0x-1.1.0.fwsc, 609,680 bytes. Displayed version 1.1.0; firmware/package identity FM-1_987010100.

X0X-RMX v1.0.1 Stable
X0X-RMX v1.0.1 Stable has been successfully installed and tested on a physical M-VAVE FM-1. The maintainer explicitly approved public publication of this exact unchanged firmware package.
- Independent X0X-RMX firmware identity: FM-1_987010001, matching the package and USB response.
- Five 303 directions: FWD → REV → MREV → PING → RND. Musical Reverse starts at step 1, then traverses the remaining configured steps backwards (1 → 16 → 15 → … → 2 → 1 for length 16; follows the configured length from 1–64).
- MREV bypasses ORB Remix without discarding the saved selection or enabled state. Forward restores Remix under the existing APPLY rules. Conventional REV behavior is preserved.
- A rejected user WAVE selection shows exactly MORPH IN USE when the other 303 already owns MORPH, through either the knob or SEL parameter list. The rejected voice retains its previous accepted waveform. Existing DSP exclusion remains intact.
- No firmware storage-layout change. Existing project and uploaded user-sample data were preserved during the hardware update and restart checks.
Saved-direction compatibility: old saved PING (2) becomes MREV, and old saved RND (3) becomes PING. There is no data migration. Reselect the desired direction and save affected patterns. New stored values are FWD=0, REV=1, MREV=2, PING=3, RND=4. Downgrading also requires reselecting directions.
Applicable automated checks passed: 75 suite groups across the main run and corrected screen-snapshot test rerun, plus targeted identity, sequencing/UI, update-preservation and Pages checks. Three external DSP reference comparisons were unavailable (schwung-9W9, schwung-8W8, schwung-303).
Hardware checklist items 1–8 passed: independent identity, five directions, correct MREV traversal, Remix bypass/restoration, MORPH notice via knob and SEL, save/restart persistence, and existing project data/user samples. The device ran stably without audible dropouts or unexpected interruptions. External MIDI clock and a dedicated extended performance test were not performed. Physical interrupted-update recovery was not tested. These limitations are accepted for this authorized Stable release; no additional hardware tests or recovery experiments are required.
Package: x0x-1.0.1.fwsc, 609,680 bytes. The hardware-tested package was not rebuilt or repackaged.

X0X-RMX v1.0.0 Stable
X0X-RMX v1.0.0 — Stable
Successfully tested on a real M-VAVE FM-1.
The first official stable release of X0X-RMX, a fork of Charles Vestal's X0X for the M-VAVE
FM-1: 909, 808, two 303s and BREAK, with independent Orb-inspired Remix for the four synth parts.
Final P9 changes
- USB AUDIO defaults to FULL for new projects and Factory Reset; saved choices survive.
- SAVE and AUTOSAVE remember the manual pattern combination for all five parts and restore
it on startup. Song and automatic chain changes do not replace the manual combination. - Built-in 909 GR and 808 GR: distinct two-bar grooves at 96 BPM, rendered during the build.
- Both 303 SEQ pages: SEQUENCE → REMIX → KEYS. KEYS retains FREE PLAY ON/OFF only.
- Remix knobs, left to right: APPLY, BANK, PATTERN, REMIX ON/OFF. Musical mappings and timing
are unchanged. - Windows MIDI names such as FM-1 Midi 2 work with the browser break uploader. The protocol
handshake is retained.
The release also includes the fork's Remix, Grids MAP/EUCLID, extended TB-3PO, LCD schemes
and existing 303 EXTRA/Morph implementation. Morph retains its one-voice-at-a-time restriction.
Confirmed hardware testing
The maintainer confirmed a regular update from development firmware FM-1_900, preservation
of existing patterns and user breaks, restoration of all five manually selected startup
patterns, pattern-chain playback and a twelve-minute musical run without reported problems.
USB audio with iPad and AudioShare was also confirmed successful. The sequencer, drum
machines, bass synthesizers, effects and breakbeat engine operated successfully on the real
M-VAVE FM-1.
Separate hardware tests of FULL and FOLLOWS KNOB were not reported and are not claimed.
The maintainer explicitly approved this stable release; those separate tests are not an
additional publication condition. Dedicated Morph worst-case benchmarks were not separately
reported.
Installation and compatibility

Existing projects remain readable. Older projects without startup fields begin with P1 on
all five parts. Normal OTA preserves all three user sample slots; the hardware test confirmed
retention of existing user breaks. Back up projects and samples before updating. Lossless
project downgrade to older firmware is not guaranteed.
Automated preparation passed 74 available test groups/scenarios, plus Chromium, website and
artifact checks. Three external DSP reference comparisons were skipped because their source
checkouts were unavailable. The DSP engines were unchanged by P9.
The demonstration video is an earlier browser-emulator recording, not physical FM-1
footage. Its outro was minimally corrected for v1.0.0 to state successful real-device validation,
while retaining the explicit browser-emulator label. The first 81.8 seconds are frame-identical
and the entire AAC audio stream is unchanged. The poster and approved banner are unchanged.
This does not imply that every individual hardware checklist item was separately tested.
X0X-RMX retains GPL-3.0 licensing and the existing upstream/third-party attribution.
