Game Engine v0.97
Pre-releaseChanges:
- GDI.drv: Palette device support is added.
Fixes vs previous pre-release:
- Internal infrastructure improvement not reflected in DOS drivers, causing them to fail during init.
- GDI.drv: Fixes for non-identity palette mapping.
- GDI.drv: Win3x compatibility fixes.
- GDI.drv: Color reduction regression for direct color modes.
P.S. Finally! Sorry for delay. I've already explained, that delay was caused by several factors. First I suspected, that may be my effort to provide better performance was pointless due to several undocumented behaviours, so I had to investigate them first. And I was right. Second problem - I was busy IRL and couldn't focus enough on this task. And when you're not focused enough, you can start to suffer from "circling syndrome". That's when you simply forget, why this or that changes have been made and start to twitch back and forth. You fix one thing, brake another, then realize, that first thing worked as intended, try to revert changes, brake something else. In order not to make such mistakes, you have to see whole picture and have plan in advance. And it's hard to do it for really complex tasks and when you can't be focused enough. So, you end up constantly delaying implementation due to "I need to think a little bit more". But at the end task have to be completed, yeah? So, you just have to start moving forward.
I guess, it's last release before going on vacation. I'm not sure about one last feature for palette support. Option to replace limited built-in palette manager's mapping with my custom algorithm. It would solve some problems, but it would be applicable to foreground palette only, would be slower and would consume more memory due to using intermediate buffers. Yeah, at the end I've managed to avoid using intermediate buffers. But not in this case.
Next big feature will be - swap effect overhaul.
