Money 1.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Muffy0906 Muffy0906 released this 27 Oct 21:14

Haptic taps when you save, delete or flip a switch, transactions that open already filled in, account pages that slide in straight away, and a tab bar that stays put while pages move.

Try the live demo →

Highlights

Haptics

  • A tap you can feel: saving a form, ticking a checkbox, confirming Delete and swipe-to-delete each give one short tap. A transaction taps once Firefly has actually saved it, not when you press Save. (#69)
  • Works on iPhone (iOS 18 and later) and on Android. Settings → Appearance → Haptics turns it off on that device, and universal search finds the setting. (#69)

Smoother to use

  • Transactions open filled in: tapping a transaction opens its form at full height straight away, instead of a short loading sheet that then jumps taller. Firefly's copy still loads behind it and only replaces the form if something differs and you haven't started typing. (#70)
  • Account pages slide in right away: opening an account keeps the list up for a moment, then slides the new page in, instead of swapping to grey placeholders first and sliding afterwards. (#70)
  • The tab bar stays still: a sliding page no longer covers the tab bar mid-animation. (#70)
  • Instant first tap on every tab: the main tabs load in the background right after you sign in, not only after a refresh. (#70)

Everything else

  • The live demo can count visitors with GoatCounter (cookie-free) when the GOATCOUNTER repository variable is set. This only touches the GitHub Pages demo; the app you host is unchanged. (#68)

Upgrading

  • Docker / TrueNAS / Unraid: docker compose pull && docker compose up -d, or pin ghcr.io/muffy0906/firefly-money:1.5.0. No new settings, and no new files to mount.
  • Your current sign-in, layout and preferences carry over. Haptics are on by default.

Money 1.4.0

@Muffy0906 Muffy0906 released this 23 Oct 23:02

Refunds that come off your spending, a desktop layout that uses the whole screen, Settings in columns, pages that reload by themselves after a dropped connection, and about half as many requests to Firefly.

Try the live demo →

Highlights

Refunds

  • Refund button: open an expense and tap Refund. Money fills in an income into the same account, with the same payee and category, tags it Refund and links it to the purchase with Firefly's Refund link. Quick add tags entries that mention "refund" too. (#66)
  • Refunds come off spending: Firefly counts a refund as income and never against a budget. Reports, Budgets, the Overview, the recap, Ask and the insight cards now take refunds off spending (and off income) instead: by category and payee from the refund, and by budget from the purchase it's linked to. (#66)
  • On phones, a transaction drawer with more buttons than fit puts the extra actions on their own row. (#66)

A roomier desktop

  • Pages are no longer capped at 1900px, so wide screens have no empty band on the right. (#65)
  • Overview: Auto fits as many columns as the screen holds, up to 6, and 6 joins the column choices. The insight strip shows up to one card per column. (#65)
  • Settings flows into up to 3 columns on screens 1100px and wider, with a list of sections on the left that stays in place, jumps to a section and marks the ones on screen. Phones keep the single column. (#65)

Steadier and faster

  • Automatic retry: when the server can't be reached (Tailscale reconnecting, a laptop waking up, the app restarting for an update), the page says what happened and retries by itself: after 2 seconds, then longer each time up to 30 seconds, and straight away when the device is back online or the tab is shown again. No more pressing Try again. (#65)
  • Fewer requests to Firefly: answers about months that have ended (past net worth, past months' totals, last month's insights) are kept for a day instead of being fetched again. Reports gets account balances in two requests per date instead of one per account, and Settings stops refetching the Apple Pay key and cards on every redraw. On the demo data, a round of Overview, Reports, Bills and Settings went from 101 requests to 46. (#65)
  • A change made in Money, pull to refresh, and Recalculate everything still fetch fresh numbers. (#65)

Everything else

  • The README has a theme gallery with a screenshot of every theme. (#63)

Upgrading

  • Docker / TrueNAS / Unraid: docker compose pull && docker compose up -d, or pin ghcr.io/muffy0906/firefly-money:1.4.0. No new settings, and no new files to mount.
  • Your current sign-in, layout and preferences carry over.
  • Money treats any income tagged Refund as a refund, so older refunds you entered as plain income count once you add that tag. Linking a refund to its purchase uses Firefly's built-in Refund link type; if you renamed or deleted it, the refund is still saved and still comes off category and payee spending, but not off a budget.

Money 1.3.0

@Muffy0906 Muffy0906 released this 22 Oct 17:40

A tidier, faster-to-use Money: one search box for the whole app, a regrouped sidebar and Settings page, pay-cycle months, budget pace, a longer forecast, report comparisons, and colors you can make your own. Updating keeps you signed in.

Try the live demo →

Highlights

Universal search

  • The ⌘K palette is now one search box for everything: pages, settings, accounts, budgets, categories, tags, bills, payees, piggy banks, recurring transactions, rules and drafts. Matching transactions load from Firefly as you type, and tapping one opens it. (#56)
  • Picking a setting opens Settings at that spot, unfolds it if needed and highlights it. Words like "debt", "savings" or "csv backup" find the right page or setting, and your recent picks show first. (#56)
  • Reach it from anywhere: a search button at the top right on iPhone (full screen, with big tap targets), a search field at the top of the More sheet, and a Search box in the sidebar on desktop. ⌘/Ctrl+K works everywhere, and / on pages without their own search. (#56)

Months, budgets and the forecast

  • Pay-cycle months: start your month on any day from the 1st to the 28th (Settings → Months & budgets). Budgets, the Overview, insights, the recap and reports all follow it. (#52)
  • Budget pace: each budget bar gets a "today" marker and says whether you're on pace, ahead, or may run out around a date. The warning level is adjustable. (#52)
  • Forecast: 6-month and 1-year views, recurring transactions carried further ahead, a careful-to-hopeful range, and an accuracy record comparing past forecasts with what really happened. (#52)

Reports and answers

  • Report comparisons: compare with the period before or with last year, with changes on every total and breakdown. Save reports you use often and download any report as CSV. (#52)
  • A cleaner Reports page: two columns (what the money went on, and who it went to or came from), empty sections listed on one line, and custom dates behind a Custom… button. (#57)
  • Ask: type a plain question ("why did spending go up?", "bills before payday", "spent on coffee") and get an answer worked out from your Firefly data, with links and the working shown. No AI involved. (#52)

Transactions

  • Duplicate any transaction, splits included, as a new one dated today. (#52)
  • Drafts: save a new transaction as a draft and finish it later. Drafts show at the top of Transactions and in Needs attention, and sync between devices. (#52)
  • Transfers to match: an expense from one of your accounts and an income of the same amount into another within 4 days is offered as one transfer you can merge with a tap. (#52)
  • To do: Review and Categorize are now two tabs of one To do page. (#58)
  • Clean up: Settings → Data → Clean up finds payees, income sources, categories, tags and budgets that nothing uses, and deletes the ones you pick. Nothing is selected for you, and it asks before deleting. (#60)

A tidier layout

  • Settings is one column of named groups like iOS Settings, with rarely used forms folded away. Theme, Hide amounts and Compact view live here now. (#53)
  • Sidebar and phone menu group the pages into everyday, Plan, Insights and Manage, with Settings at the bottom. The sidebar scrolls on short windows. (#54, #58)
  • Overview on phones shows the first six cards and folds the rest under Show more, about a third of the old height. Your card order decides which six come first. (#55)

Themes and colors

  • Customize colors: Settings → Appearance → Customize colors sets the background and accent for any theme. For Liquid glass neon you can also pick the three glow colors, glass tint, frost, blur, and turn the moving light off. Your colors sync between devices. (#62)
  • Three new themes: Forest, Nord and Rosé. (#51)
  • Carbon neon: a cleaner selected item in the sidebar, and no more green sliver beside the selected tab. (#51, #60)

Everything else

  • Questions and ideas now have a home in Discussions, linked from the README and the new-issue page. (#61)
  • Steadier smoke tests on the slow CI server. (#59, #60)

Upgrading

  • Docker / TrueNAS / Unraid: docker compose pull && docker compose up -d, or pin ghcr.io/muffy0906/firefly-money:1.3.0. No new settings, and no new files to mount.
  • Your current sign-in, layout and preferences carry over. New preferences (cycle day, budget warning, drafts, saved reports, custom colors) sync through Firefly like the others.
  • Budget limits for pay-cycle months still come from Firefly, so auto-budgets keep resetting on the 1st of the calendar month.

Money 1.2.0

The biggest update yet: log Apple Pay purchases automatically from your iPhone, see where you spent on a map, a customizable Overview, a monthly recap, a bills calendar, and a safer sign-in. Updating keeps you signed in.

Try the live demo → (new in this release, runs in your browser with made-up data)

Highlights

Apple Pay auto-logging

  • Every Apple Pay purchase can land in Firefly on its own. Add the ready-made Log to Money Shortcut, make a Wallet "Transaction" automation that runs it, and Money creates the withdrawal tagged "Apple Pay" with the payee's usual category and budget. Refunds become deposits, and repeats are ignored. Setup lives in Settings → Apple Pay and docs/apple-pay.md. (#36, #47, #49)
  • The Shortcut can also send where you paid, a foreign-currency amount (converted with Firefly's latest exchange rate) and an optional category picked at checkout. (#44)
  • Wallet card names match your accounts more reliably, and when one doesn't, Settings → Apple Pay → Cards lets you pick its account. (#43)
  • The Apple Pay key has a Show/Hide button, and Copy now works on plain-HTTP home installs. (#41)

Map page

  • A new Map page puts the month's purchases with a location on a map, one pin per place sized by what you spent there. Tap a pin for its purchases and an Apple Maps link. Smooth panning and pinch-zoom on phones. Map tiles are fetched and cached by your Money server, so your browser only talks to Money. (#46, #48)

Overview you can arrange

  • Drag cards anywhere on a snap grid, choose the column count, and toggle summary items. Empty space closes up after you customize, and dragging is steadier. (#14, #15, #16, #17, #28)
  • Per-card settings (⚙ in Customize): how many rows to show, comparisons, closed accounts, trend lines and more. (#29)
  • New cards, including Net worth history over 1 or 3 years. (#14, #24)

Bills, recap and review

  • Bills calendar: a List / Calendar switch showing each bill on the day it was paid or is due, with paid / due / overdue totals. (#33)
  • Monthly recap: earned, spent, kept and net worth change against a usual month, where the money went, biggest purchases, new payees and bills, with a few sentences calling out what stands out. (#33)
  • Payee pages: the last twelve months for any payee or income source at a glance. (#33)
  • Forecast what-ifs: try out a purchase, raise or new subscription and see how it changes your projected balance and safe-to-spend. (#33)
  • Review queue: new transactions to check over, under Categorize. (#33)
  • Subscription finder: spots repeating charges that aren't bills yet and flags price increases. (#24)
  • Savings goal pace: how much a dated goal needs per month and whether you're on track. Budgets show auto-budget periods and rollovers. (#24)

Everything else

  • Logos for payees, banks and cards, served through your Money server (turn off in Settings → Logos). (#30)
  • Period totals on the Payees and Income sources tabs. (#29)
  • Your dashboard layout and choices sync between devices through Firefly. Theme, privacy and density stay per device. (#24)
  • Fixes: cash flow chart hover and tooltip (#27), theme swatch edges (#25).

Security

  • Signing in now gives your browser a signed, HttpOnly session cookie instead of storing your password. Sessions last 30 days with "Keep me signed in", and end when DASH_PASSWORD or FIREFLY_TOKEN changes. A password saved by 1.1.0 is swapped for a session on first load, so you stay signed in. (#32)
  • Sign-in attempts and API calls are rate-limited. (#32)
  • All page markup is built with an escaping template tag, closing off a class of injection bugs. (#22)

Upgrading

  • Docker / TrueNAS / Unraid: docker compose pull && docker compose up -d, or pin ghcr.io/muffy0906/firefly-money:1.2.0. No new settings are needed.
  • Running the stock nginx image with mounted files? It now also needs app/nginx.conf, app/session.js and app/ingest.js mounted, and DASH_PASSWORD drops out of NGINX_ENVSUBST_FILTER. See the comments at the bottom of docker-compose.yml.
  • New: an Unraid template. (#23)
  • Money is now under the MIT License. (#13)

Under the hood

  • Rewritten as TypeScript modules bundled with esbuild, with strict type checking throughout. (#18, #31, #34, #35, #39, #40, #42)
  • Unit tests (Vitest) and linting (oxlint) run in CI. (#21)
  • Docker image built on Node 26; dependency updates. (#19, #20, #37, #38)
  • Token setup steps point at Profile → Remote access and tokens. (#12)
