FORTE 3.0 is an intermediate resolution coupled Atmosphere Ocean General Circulation Model (AOGCM). As released, it consists of IGCM4, a T42 spectral atmosphere with 35 sigma layers, coupled to MOMA, a 2° x 2° ocean with 15 z layer depth levels. It is capable of producing a stable climate for long integrations without the need for flux adjustments.
This model has been updated from FORTE 2.1 . The main differences are:
- changes to IGCM4 cloud, convection, surface parameters
- changes to IGCM4/MOMA windstress coupling
- changes to MOMA parameters and bathymetry
FORTE 3.0 has an improved basic state and values of ECS (Equilibrium Climate Sensitivity) and TCR (Transient Climate Response) that are more consistent with CMIP5/6 GCMs.
