Here is a breadboard. Every pin in the same row is electrically connected but rows themselves are not connected. The picture below shows which pins are linked. The vertical columns on the edges of the board are also linked. These are usually used for power and ground.
Next, we're going to connect the arduino nano to give our breadboard power and ground. Place the nano inbetween the center rail so that each side is connected to separate parts of the breadboard. Next strip some wire to connect the 5 volts pin of the nano to the red vertical column. Convention usually uses the red for power and blue/black for ground. Also connect the two vertical columns of the breadboard together (left red column to right red column, left blue column to right blue column)
