Orbis 0.1.1

@NXTORBIS NXTORBIS released this 13 Sep 21:14

Orbis 0.1.1 adds web search, a browser panel that opens websites properly, and an All-in-One download that includes ORION and its AI models.

Important: the installer and portable downloads need ORION on your PC

They talk only to ORION, an AI server that runs locally on the same computer at http://127.0.0.1:8765. They include no cloud models and need no API key.

If ORION is not running on your computer, Orbis cannot send or answer messages. If you don't have ORION, use the All-in-One download, which includes it.

What's new in 0.1.1

  • Web search. Turn it on with the globe button in the top bar. Orbis then searches the web for your latest message and gives the top results to ORION to answer with. The search runs on DuckDuckGo, so your message is sent to DuckDuckGo while web search is on. When it's off, your messages aren't sent there.
  • A browser panel that loads websites. Open it from the globe icon in the side rail. It now uses a real embedded browser, so sites that refused to open in 0.1.0 load normally. It starts on DuckDuckGo; type a web address or search words in its bar.

Downloads

  • Installer (.exe) — installs Orbis on your PC and adds it to the Start menu.
  • Portable (.zip) — runs without installing anything.
  • All-in-One (.zip, 7 parts) — Orbis together with ORION, its AI models and its own copy of Python, so there's nothing else to set up. 12.2 GB.

The installer and the portable zip are the same build of Orbis 0.1.1.

All-in-One download

It contains:

  • the Orbis app
  • the ORION server, with llama.cpp
  • two AI models by Qwen, both under the Apache 2.0 licence (included in the download): Qwen3-14B (GGUF, Q4_K_M) for chat, and Qwen3.5-0.8B-Base
  • a private copy of Python 3.12 with ORION's packages

Its Orbis app is a slightly newer build than the 0.1.1 installer: ORION's replies appear as they're written, and web search results are sent together with your question. Its file details still say version 0.1.0.

GitHub accepts at most 2 GB per file, so the zip is split into 7 parts.

To open it: save all 7 parts in one folder, then open Orbis-AllInOne-Windows.zip.001 with 7-Zip and extract it. Without 7-Zip, join the parts by running this in Command Prompt in that folder, then extract the joined zip:

copy /b Orbis-AllInOne-Windows.zip.* Orbis-AllInOne-Windows.zip

To start: open the extracted folder and double-click Start-Orbis.bat. The first start loads the AI models and can take a few minutes. A minimized window called "ORION - keep this window open" appears on the taskbar, and Orbis opens by itself when ORION is ready. To stop, close Orbis, then close the ORION window.

Requirements:

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
  • 16 GB RAM recommended; the 14B chat model uses about 9 GB
  • About 25 GB free disk space to download and extract, and about 15 GB once the parts are deleted
  • Runs on the processor, no graphics card needed. Replies are slow: about 3 tokens a second on the laptop it was measured on.
  • The AI runs on your PC; only web search and the browser panel use the internet.

Everything in Orbis

  • HUD interface: particle grid, system bar with live CPU load and clock, icon rail and glowing composer
  • Replies rendered with Markdown, tables, syntax-highlighted code and LaTeX math
  • Chat history with search, rename and delete; share a chat as Markdown
  • Attach text and code files to a message
  • Web search and a browser panel
  • Profile names, dark or light theme, visual-effects toggle and custom instructions

Voice input and image upload aren't available yet; their buttons show a "coming soon" notice.

Install

Requires Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Orbis isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show a notice the first time. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

  • Installer: run Orbis-Setup-0.1.1.exe and choose where to install.
  • Portable: extract Orbis-0.1.1-Portable.zip, open the win-unpacked folder and run Orbis.exe.
  • All-in-One: see above.
