Defender Beta 2.1

Technical version: 0.2.0-beta.1

Defender Beta 2.1 is a focused workflow and diagnostics update for Windows beta testing.

Improved

  • Recognized sources with missing required values can now be corrected inline before being added to the return.
  • Manual corrections are validated, remain traceable, and are identified as Manual overwrite in review.
  • Return questions are grouped into guided Eligibility, Household, Deductions and credits, and State sections.
  • Eligibility answers now complete reliably without a Reflex state-proxy error on the final questions.
  • Blocked workflows now point to the first concrete item that needs attention.
  • Empty optional income sections remain hidden until related forms are used.
  • State questions are disabled by default while the existing PA review path remains available through Settings.
  • Support snapshots now include actionable source warnings, missing fields, launcher/build diagnostics, workflow status, and sanitized recent error excerpts.
  • Defender uses the refreshed Bridge black and blue shield icon.
  • The reviewed Form 1040 is bundled with Defender, so review-copy export no longer depends on a developer-only Desktop file.
  • Qualified dividends and supported net long-term capital gains now use the reviewed preferential-rate tax worksheet instead of being taxed as ordinary income.
  • Clear local test data now also clears lingering eligibility/question state so fresh beta runs start cleanly.

Verification

  • Beta 2 preflight passed all 521 automated tests; seven intentional skips remain.
  • This replacement build additionally passed 270 focused Simple, Power, staging, settings, launcher, preferential-tax, and PDF/export tests.
  • Python compilation, direct index() evaluation, Reflex compilation, production frontend export, and git diff --check passed before packaging.
  • The exact replacement ZIP passed clean extraction checks and native WebView2 launch acceptance: frontend/backend returned HTTP 200, diagnostics were written, bundled Tesseract was found, and ports listened on 127.0.0.1 only.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • Approximately 300 MB of free space after extraction.
  • Microsoft WebView2 Runtime, included with Windows 11 and most supported Windows 10 systems.

Install

  1. Download Defender-Beta-0.2.0-beta.1-win64.zip.
  2. Verify its SHA-256 checksum against the attached checksum file.
  3. Extract the complete ZIP into a normal folder.
  4. Open the extracted Defender Beta folder and run Defender Beta.exe.

Important Beta Notice

  • This is pre-release testing software and may contain errors.
  • It creates non-final review copies only. It does not file, submit, upload, mail, or transmit a tax return.
  • Verify every result independently before relying on it.
  • Early testers should use test or redacted documents whenever possible.
  • Windows may display a SmartScreen warning because this beta is not yet code-signed.

Feedback

If something goes wrong, open App Settings and choose Export support snapshot. Send the sanitized ZIP with a screenshot and a short description of what happened. The snapshot excludes uploaded source documents, generated review PDFs, and raw OCR text.
