Release list
Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.2.0
Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.2.0
A Pokémon that follows you, day and night, a full-width screen and many fixes.
This release does not contain the game. You need your own dump of your own Pokémon FireRed (USA, Rev 1) cartridge. The builder reads it on your computer and generates the game's data from it; the ROM is never uploaded, copied or modified.
Updating from an earlier version: run the new builder again. The data pack changed, so an older firered3ds.pak does not work with this executable. Your save is not touched.
New
- A Pokémon that follows you in the 3D world: the first Pokémon of your party walks behind you, in Mystery Dungeon style, in eight directions (diagonals included), with walking and idle animations. It hides while surfing, biking and in battles, and can be turned off in OPTIONS (3D FOLLOWER).
Its sprites come from PMD SpriteCollab, most of them Spike Chunsoft's own from the Mystery Dungeon games, so they are not included in this release: the builder downloads them while it installs (it needs an internet connection for that, once) and writesfollowers.binandfollowers-credits.txt, with every artist credited, next to the game. Without a connection the game is installed all the same, without the follower. - Day and night: the 3D overworld's light follows the clock of your console, with dawn, day, dusk and night blending smoothly. OPTIONS > 3D DAY/NIGHT: CLOCK (default), FAST (a whole day every 24 minutes) or OFF. Indoors and caves are not affected.
- Full-width screen: the intro, the menus and the classic 2D field now fill the top screen instead of leaving black bars at the sides. OPTIONS > SCREEN FIT switches back to the GBA's original proportions.
Improved
- Sound: the music no longer stretches when entering or leaving buildings, and keeps its pace on slow frames.
- Gyms: the back walls of Pewter, Cerulean, Celadon and Cinnabar Gyms no longer have black gaps; Fuchsia Gym's maze walls are invisible again, as on the GBA; Pewter's rocks and Vermilion's bins are solid instead of paper-thin.
- Silph Co.: the office walls are solid blocks; the black trenches along them are gone.

Linux, macOS or a Chromebook with Linux: the builder also runs from its Python sources (Python 3.11+ and Pillow) with this release's payload folder; see the README.
FireRed3DS.3dsx and FireRed3DS.smdh are attached on their own too. Use them only to update the executable when the builder says your data pack still matches; for this update it does not, so run the builder.

Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.1.2
Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.1.2
A more solid 3D Professor Oak's Lab.
Improved
- Professor Oak's Lab in 3D:
- The table where the starters' Poké Balls sit is a real table, with a flat top and legs, instead of a board standing on its edge.
- The bookshelves are solid low cabinets, with their white top and their base.
- The furniture against the back wall stands out of it: the bookshelves, the two machines and the desk.
- The corner plants stand up.
- Furniture no longer reaches into the row you walk along, so Red is never drawn inside a table or shelf.
- Labs on Cinnabar Island: the wall behind furniture now matches the lab's own wall.

Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.1.1
Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.1.1
Fixes from testing on a New 3DS.
This release does not contain the game. You need your own dump of your own Pokémon FireRed (USA, Rev 1) cartridge. The builder reads it on your computer and generates the game's data from it; the ROM is never uploaded, copied or modified.
Updating from v0.1.0: run the new builder again. The data pack changed, so the v0.1.0 firered3ds.pak does not work with this executable. Your save is not touched.
Fixed
- Much faster: the game no longer draws pictures nobody sees. The 2D picture under the 3D world is skipped, and so are the frames fast-forward hides. The overworld and 3D battles run smoothly on a New 3DS, the music no longer stutters, and fast-forward really speeds the game up while the music keeps its normal pace.
- Sharp picture: text, menus and sprites on the top screen no longer have jagged edges. Every GBA pixel is now drawn the same size.
- Pokémon pictures in the 3D overworld: the starter's picture (and every other script picture) shows when you check its Poké Ball.
- Things on furniture: the starters' Poké Balls sit on Professor Oak's table instead of inside it.

Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.1.0
Pokémon FireRed 3DS v0.1.0
The first release: Pokémon FireRed running natively on the Nintendo 3DS, on both screens, with an HD-2D style 3D world.
This release does not contain the game. You need your own dump of your own Pokémon FireRed (USA, Rev 1) cartridge. The builder reads it on your computer and generates the game's data from it; the ROM is never uploaded, copied or modified.
Install
- Download
FireRed3DS-v0.1.0-Windows.zipand extract the whole ZIP. - Run
FireRed3DS-Builder.exe. - Choose your ROM — Pokémon FireRed (USA, Rev 1), SHA-1

/3ds/firered3ds/FireRed3DS.3dsx,FireRed3DS.smdhandfirered3ds.pak. - Start Pokémon FireRed 3DS from the Homebrew Launcher.
Needs a 3DS / 2DS family console with custom firmware (Luma3DS) and the Homebrew Launcher. Saves are kept in /3ds/firered3ds/firered3ds.sav; reinstalling or updating never touches them.
FireRed3DS.3dsx and FireRed3DS.smdh are attached on their own too, for updating the executable alone — only when the builder says your data pack still matches (a data pack only works with the release that generated it).
What's in it
- The whole game, native, at the console's frame rate.
- A 3D overworld rebuilt from the game's own art: buildings, trees, mountains, caves and furnished interiors, with lighting, shadows and an adjustable camera (the classic 2D field is one option away).
- Optional 3D battles in front of the voxel world.
- A Pokédex-style bottom screen: region map, party, quick keys, touch battle menus; menus open on it while the top screen keeps the world.
- Optional free movement with the circle pad.
- Options: settings, enhancements (game speed, exp share, reusable TMs, HMs without the move…) and cheats.
