GitDonkey 1.4.0
What's new
- Resolve conflicts with AI. In the merge tool, Resolve with AI asks the AI provider you set up for commit messages to suggest a resolution for each conflict, with a one-line reason and how confident it is. Nothing changes until you press Use suggestion (or Edit it first, or use them all), and you still save and mark the file resolved yourself.
Fixed
- Stashing with conflicts. Instead of Git's "could not write index", GitDonkey now says which files are still conflicted and takes you to them with Show conflicts. Other actions blocked by conflicts explain themselves the same way.
- A stash pop that conflicts now says Git kept the stash, so you know to delete it once you're happy.
- Repeated errors count up on one notice (×3) instead of stacking.
Downloads
- macOS, Apple Silicon:
GitDonkey-1.4.0-mac-arm64.dmg - macOS, Intel:
GitDonkey-1.4.0-mac-x64.dmg - Windows 10/11 (x64):

On 1.1.0 or later, GitDonkey offers this update itself.
GitDonkey 1.3.0
What's new
- The donkey. A little 3D GitDonkey now lives in the bottom-left corner. He watches your pointer and has something to say about your commits, pushes, merges, conflicts, rebases, branches, stashes and the occasional
reset --hard. - Things to do to him. Click to poke him (keep going and he gets annoyed), double-click to spin him, wiggle the pointer over him to pet him, and right-click for hay, a joke, an hour of quiet, or to hide him.
- Not for you? Untick Show the donkey in Settings. He's also polite about it: he idles at a low frame rate, stops when the window is hidden, and keeps still if you've asked your computer for reduced motion.

GitDonkey 1.2.1
Fixed
- Saving an AI key after declining the Keychain prompt. If you click Deny when macOS asks to let GitDonkey use the Keychain, saving an API key no longer fails. The key works until you quit, and GitDonkey offers to reopen so you can choose Always Allow and save it.
- A saved key macOS won't unlock now says so, with a way to reopen, instead of asking you to add a key.

GitDonkey-1.2.1-mac-arm64.dmg - macOS, Intel:
GitDonkey-1.2.1-mac-x64.dmg - Windows 10/11 (x64):

GitDonkey 1.2.0
What's new
- Themes. 21 to pick from in Themes… (GitDonkey menu, or Settings): originals like Studio Paper, Oscilloscope, Tape Deck and Neon Arcade, light themes, High Contrast, and classics like Nord, Dracula, Solarized, Gruvbox, Monokai, Catppuccin, Tokyo Night and Rosé Pine. The whole window changes as you click, graph lanes included.
- Theme builder. Make your own beside the live app: every colour has a picker, a readability check flags anything too faint and can fix it for you, and Copy theme code lets you share it.
- AI themes. Describe one (“sunset”, “forest at dawn”, “1980s arcade”) and press Generate: the AI provider you set up for commit messages designs it, and GitDonkey makes sure it's readable.
Updating
On 1.1.0, GitDonkey offers this update itself: Update, then Restart to update. On 1.0.0, download it below and replace the app.

GitDonkey 1.1.0
What's new
- Update notices. GitDonkey now looks for a new release at launch and every six hours, and shows what changed. Update downloads the build for your computer, checks it against the release's SHA-256 and installs it: on macOS it swaps the app in place and reopens it, with no Open Anyway step; on Windows the installer runs silently. Check for Updates… is in the GitDonkey menu (Help on Windows), and Settings has a switch to turn the checks off.
- AI commit messages (optional). Generate in the commit box writes the message from your staged changes, using OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint with your own key. Keys are encrypted with your system keychain, and nothing is sent until you press Generate.
Updating from 1.0.0
1.0.0 can't update itself, so download this one by hand and replace the app. From 1.1.0 on, GitDonkey tells you when there's a new version.
