Tucked v1.0.1 - Sleep-Wake History, Fan Capability Engine, and Refined Aesthetics

Tucked v1.0.1 brings significant stability, telemetry continuity, sensor intelligence, and visual refinement to ARM-based Mac monitoring.

What is New in v1.0.1

Sleep and Wake Telemetry Continuity

  • In-Memory History Preservation: CPU, memory, and network throughput rolling graphs remain intact across system sleep cycles.
  • Sleep Interval Isolation: Passive sampling is suspended immediately when macOS enters sleep, ensuring sleep duration is never sampled as active wall-clock time.
  • Visual Discontinuity Marker: Rolling sparkline traces render a clean 1-sample gap separating pre-sleep history from post-wake samples, preventing false interpolation.
  • Zero Wake Spikes: Darwin Mach CPU ticks and network routing interface counters capture fresh baselines immediately upon wake before passive sampling resumes.
  • Zero Disk Persistence: Metric buffers remain strictly in-memory and volatile.

Fan Capability and State Machine

  • Independent Capability Tracking: CPU temperature sensing and fan speed telemetry operate completely independently. CPU temperature detection no longer traps fan status.
  • Bounded Discovery Retry: Discovery is strictly bounded to a maximum of 3 sampling attempts, ensuring "Measuring..." states are purely transient.
  • Six Distinct Lifecycle States:
    • Measuring: Initial transient discovery phase.
    • Fanless: Verified zero fans or fanless hardware (MacBook Air).
    • 0 RPM: Known fan verified at zero rotational speed.
    • Active RPM: Live rotational speed reading.
    • Not Found: Hardware confirmed to have fans, but RPM sensor unavailable.
    • Indeterminate: Fan hardware capability cannot be verified.
  • Sensor Fidelity: Sensor read failures are never converted into Fanless or 0 RPM.

Visual Refinement and Restraint

  • Outer Drop Shadow Elimination: Removed the heavy blurred outer drop shadow from the shelf popover in favor of a razor-sharp 0.5 pt boundary stroke and subtle background blur, giving the floating Dynamic Island panel a cleaner and more native appearance.

Tucked v1.0.0 - Your Mac, at a glance.

Tucked is a native, lightweight menu-bar system monitor designed exclusively for Apple Silicon macOS. Built purely with Swift, SwiftUI, and AppKit, Tucked delivers real-time system metrics without consuming the resources it monitors.

Highlights

  • Native Architecture: Zero Electron, zero web views, zero analytics, and zero background cloud infrastructure. Pure Swift compiled directly for arm64 Apple Silicon.
  • Dual-State Engine:
    • Passive Mode (Shelf Closed): Minimal aggregate sampling (~1 Hz) for CPU, RAM, and 64-bit network throughput. Zero network probes and zero background process polling while closed.
    • Diagnostic Mode (Shelf Open): Asynchronous hardware thermals, active fan RPM telemetry, top CPU and memory consumers, and network ping and jitter monitoring.
  • Instrument-Grade Telemetry Graphs:
    • Custom Canvas-rendered micro-area history charts with physical-pixel hairline top edges.
    • Bidirectional dual-channel network graph with download and upload traces cleanly divided by a neutral center datum line.
    • Dynamic stepped ceiling bandwidth scaling preserving instantaneous spikes and bursts without visual distortion.
  • Process Management:
    • Live inspection of top CPU and memory consumers with on-demand application icon caching.
    • Instant one-click termination via SIGKILL with protection for critical system processes (WindowServer, loginwindow, Dock, Finder) to safely recover from runaway tasks.
  • Apple Silicon Hardware Integration:
    • Direct SMC telemetry reading integer CPU temperatures and fan RPMs, including distinct representation for fanless hardware.
  • Single-Surface Experience:
    • Continuous menu-bar status item opening a unified popover with dynamic island spring transitions, dark and light theme support, and in-shelf settings.
