Sleeve 1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@NeonRost NeonRost released this 05 Oct 02:42

First public release.

A native macOS audio tagger that also converts, rips and burns CDs and splits long recordings into tracks. One track list is shared by Tag, Convert and Rip — rip a CD, tag what came out, convert it, without importing anything twice.

Tag

  • Batch editing — one track or a whole album; fields that differ show <Multiple values>, and a field is only written if you touched it
  • Numbering, capitalization, find and replace, fill a field from other tags or the file name — every batch step with a preview
  • Rename and extract — one pattern syntax both ways: tags into file names, file names into tags
  • Cover art — every embedded picture with its type, scaled per picture when added
  • Look Up Album on MusicBrainz (no account) or Discogs (your own token), with each file's length against the release's — and the front cover if you like
  • Undo the last save, Add to Music

Convert

MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, Opus, Vorbis, WAV and AIFF with ffmpeg. Sleeve writes the tags back itself afterwards, cover included — the album artist and the disc number survive the trip.

Rip, image, burn, copy

  • Rip in burst or secure mode, with read offset, C2 error pointers, an optional second pass and a log; CD-TEXT, ISRC and the MusicBrainz disc ID fill in the tags, Look Up… finds the exact pressing
  • Create Disc Image — the whole disc, gapless, as BIN, WAV or FLAC plus a cue sheet
  • Burn Image to CD — with a test run first; checked on real hardware, the burned disc read back byte for byte identical to its image
  • Copy CD — one button: read, eject, insert a blank, done; with two drives it reads in one and burns in the other

Split into tracks

Cuts an album video, a vinyl side or a live set into tracks without re-encoding. Silence detection, two magnifiers for each boundary, and titles from MusicBrainz, Discogs or a track list pasted from the video description.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later
  • Apple Silicon (arm64)
  • ffmpeg for converting, for ripping to anything but WAV, for FLAC disc images and for splitting — tagging needs nothing else
brew install ffmpeg

Sleeve does not bundle ffmpeg. Where it is missing, the affected parts stay visible and show that command ready to copy.

Installation

  1. Download the .dmg, open it and drag Sleeve onto the Applications folder — or download the .zip, unzip it and move Sleeve.app to your Applications folder
  2. On first launch macOS will refuse to open the app because it is not
notarized. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the
message about Sleeve and click Open Anyway

The user manual covers every function in detail.
