Release 1.0.0
The first stable release of the NetIgnite agent for Linux, for
NetIgnite Server 2.0.0 or newer.
It replaces the v1 "server" agent, which can't connect to a v2 server. No changes since
1.0.0-beta.1.
Install
In the dashboard, create a Linux agent and run the command its page shows on the machine:
curl -fsSL https://<your-server>/install/linux.sh | sudo sh -s -- <token>It picks the binary for the machine's CPU, checks it against SHA256SUMS, pairs the agent with your
server using the single-use token and installs the systemd service.
What it does
- Host mode: reports whether the machine is online and lets the dashboard shut it down or reboot
it. For Linux machines this is the recommended alternative to SSH: no login to the machine is
stored on the server. - Wake-on-LAN mode (optional): also wakes other devices in its network, checks their status
(ping, TCP port, IPv6 link-local from the MAC) and logs in to them over SSH for shutdown and
reboot, like the ESP32 agent.
Security
- Runs as the unprivileged user
netignitewith systemd hardening. A polkit rule lets it power off
and reboot, nothing else. - Fixed actions only: no remote shell, no file access, no configuration changes from the server.
- The agent generates its own secret and keeps it in
/etc/netignite/agent.json(mode 0600); the
server only stores a hash.
Requirements
Linux with systemd on a 64-bit x86 or ARM CPU, and polkit for shutdown and reboot. Wake-on-LAN
mode also needs ping and ip; the install script needs curl and sha256sum.
