v0.3.0 - Modular Extensions (hbk add)

Choose a tag to compare

@nachovoss nachovoss released this 07 Sep 09:02

🧩 Modular extensions system

  • New hbk add <module> / hbk add --list — install optional integrations into an existing project, no re-init.
  • Modules are declared with a module.json manifest (requirements, env vars, routes, models, repositories, post-install message).
  • Project-local registry at .hatchback/modules.json tracks installs for a clean hbk remove <module>.
  • hbk remove now auto-detects scaffolded resources vs installed modules.

🐳 Docker is now a module

  • Dockerfile, docker-compose.yml, .dockerignore moved to optional_templates/docker/. Still included by default with hbk init; add later with hbk add docker.

💳 Stripe ported to the module system

  • hbk init --stripe still works; you can now also run hbk add stripe on any project.

🐛 Fixes

  • Edits to requirements.txt / .env now preserve the file's original encoding (UTF-8, UTF-8-BOM, UTF-16). Fixes pip failing with Invalid requirement: 's\x00t\x00r...' after adding a module to PowerShell-generated files.

📚 Docs & tests

  • New ROADMAP.md with module catalogue and checkbox tracking.
  • README, generated-project README, landing page and hatchback agent skill updated.
  • tests/test_modules.py — 7 cases covering install, uninstall round-trip, idempotency, Docker, UTF-16.

Install / upgrade

pip install -U hatchback

@nachovoss nachovoss released this 10 Feb 11:37

✨ New Commands

hbk CLI Shortcut
Use hbk as a shorthand for hatchback — all commands work with either.

hbk make product # same as: hatchback make product

hbk remove <resource>
The inverse of hbk make. Deletes all 6 scaffolded files (model, schema, repository, service, route, test) and cleans up all __init__.py imports automatically.

hbk remove product # asks for confirmation
hbk remove product --force # skips confirmation

hbk upgrade
Sync the latest agent skills and infrastructure files into existing projects — without touching Docker files, user code, or config.

pip install --upgrade hatchback
hbk upgrade

🤖 Built-in Agent Skills

New projects now ship with two GitHub Agent Skills in .github/skills/:

  • hatchback — Project overview, CLI commands, database config, auth system, and conventions.
  • clean-architecture — Layered architecture rules, code examples, anti-patterns, and testing patterns.

Works with GitHub Copilot coding agent, Copilot CLI, and VS Code agent mode. Existing projects can get them via hbk upgrade.

🔧 Improvements

  • CLI --help examples now use the hbk shortcut
  • Post-init help text shows all available commands
  • Updated MANIFEST.in to include .github dotdir in package distributions

Hatchback v0.1.8

@nachovoss nachovoss released this 12 Jan 16:47

🏎️ Hatchback v0.1.8

🚀 New Features

  • Database Import (inspect): You can now import existing databases into Hatchback!
    • hatchback inspect --url <db_url>: Generates SQLAlchemy 2.0 models from your database tables.
    • hatchback inspect --scaffold --url <db_url>: Automatically generates the full clean architecture (Models, Schemas, Repositories, Services, Routes) for every table in your database.
  • Version Command: Added hatchback --version to check your current CLI version.

🛠️ Improvements

  • Smart Scaffolding: Enhanced make and inspect logic to automatically handle singular/plural naming conventions (e.g., table users -> Model User).
  • Clean Imports: The model generator now automatically cleans unused imports and separates class logic for cleaner code.
  • Dependencies: Added sqlacodegen and psycopg2-binary to core requirements.

🐛 Fixes

  • Fixed issues where sqlacodegen would generate multiple classes in a single file or include unwanted Base definitions.
  • Corrected import issues in the CLI command registration.
