General Build Guide: REDUX #6

I've just ordered many of the parts I need to build this, and I'm hopeful this guide is fleshed out as the parts begin to arrive! |

Hi there. I'm almost done printing a REDUX case. I had some questions about the fan mount. At first I was confused on if you needed to print two of the pieces labelled "fan mount." If you look at it from the right angle or look at specific pictures you have posted here it's more obvious, but definitely wasn't obvious to me at first how it works. I see now that you use fan screws to secure one of them to either side of a set of two fans. There's a lot of conflicting information out there about how you should modify the stock cooler, whether 1 or 2 fans is better, etc. I opened up my fins only in the center of the heatsink to use that single Arctic P12 pro static pressure fan everyone recommends:
I just printed this random mount that I found temporarily while getting things set up and rigged it up in a spare ATX case to get going. Now that I'm printing this case though, I see I'll have to take a different approach. I used one of these to pry up the fins: https://www.printables.com/model/1282906-bc-250-scooper It worked okay, but the tines all eventually snapped off and I finished the rest with plastic spudgers from my ifixit kit. I was a little rough with it, but I get good temps. It hovers around 70C when gaming with 40CU unlock enabled. I see the method you're using uses scissors to literally rip off the bent part of the fin... but I can't really do that at this point with my center section. Is it okay if I just print a few more of those "scooper" tools and do the same thing I did with the center section? Also, is the Arctic P12 Pro okay to use here, or should I install Airflow fans? I have some other 120mm airflow fans that I could use. |

I need to replace my thermal pads. I saw you mention 1.5mm, any recommendations on what size and how much thermal pad is needed for the whole board? |

Cheers for your work on this project, has been fun to work on making one. Quick question. I'm a peanut and went and printed the case and fan mounts in PETG. Will I get away with testing it with this before I go again with PETG-CF now that I have RTFM? Bit of a 3d printing noob here but having a blast so far. |

I've searched quite a bit but couldn't find a clear answer. Is it posted anywhere showing which holes need the threaded inserts? I'm assuming its the 16 holes on the sides of the front and back pieces of the case? Also, what screws should I be using to attach the FSP500-30AS mount to the back case? I know I'm probably overthinking this, but didn't want to strip anything out. |

I've made a lot of progress putting this together but I'm not sure how to wire the generic latching switch from the BOM to the FSP500-30AS. I see someone's made a board to simplify this process but it's out of stock, and so I need to fall back on the normal steps to wire the switch to bridge ps_on, but I can't figure out how to do it. |

Its dead easy to wire up bud, take a photo of the wire loom for your switch as the wire colours change, I just need to see your wire colour and which pin/location it is on the plug. |

This case is incredible and convinced me to pull the trigger on getting a BC250 :) Does the redux case have room underneath the RAM backplate to add an additional large heatsink next to the clamping brace (or instead of the clamping brace)? |

For the REDUX Case:
Prep the BC-250 by peeling the fin stack open, recommend removing it from the BC-250 to do the job though, you can remove it after open the finstack, this is required, as in some cases, metal can fall and get trapped under it, causing the magic smoke to escape :)
Use a pair of scissors, and a piece of wood or some thick plastic like I did, and start from the IO side, and peel the fin open, 1 at a time all the way across, best to leave 1 or two on the sides closed to give the finstack some strength.
You also need to remove the metal brackets from both ends of the board:
I also recommend replacing the thermal interface material with either PTM7950 or Arctic MX7, thermal pads are optional, 1.5mm thick are recommended.
